What kind of restaurant is Jjumikkumi?

I went out for a fragrant, spicy meal in Gyori, Gijang. Today I'm introducing Jjumikkumi, a place where you can enjoy jjukkumi (spicy stir-fried baby octopus) stir-fry, pizza, and mukbap (acorn jelly) all on one table. It's right in front of the Gyori Elementary School bus stop line, so it wasn't hard to find, and even from outside I could feel the comfortable, neighborhood-restaurant vibe.

I was looking for a lunch spot among the best restaurants in Busan and ended up here — the spicy octopus paired with plain rice, cool mukbap, and soft pizza made for a satisfying, well-rounded meal.

Inside Jjumikkumi: atmosphere and seating

Jjumikkumi exterior and signage along the roadside

Jjumikkumi sits along the roadside, so it was easy to spot. The bright signage and warm-toned exterior caught my eye first, and once inside, neatly arranged tables welcomed me.

Rather than an elaborately decorated space, it had a bright, tidy atmosphere that felt comfortable. The tables were spaced generously enough that it looked good for a family meal or a visit with several people.

Near the entrance there's a self-service corner with ice cream, snacks, iced tea, and a coffee machine. Overall it had the neat, unpretentious feel of a local Gijang restaurant, easy to relax in.

As a Busan Gijang lunch spot, this was well suited to those who'd rather enjoy spicy, savory, and cool flavors in turn than stick to just one dish.

Cool mukbap and side dishes

After ordering, the side dishes — salad, wrap vegetables, and mukbap among others — were neatly set out. With green vegetables and yellow-tinted salad side by side, the table looked even brighter.

Eating the spicy jjukkumi with crunchy vegetables on the side, or a spoonful of cool mukbap, refreshed my palate each time. Each dish smoothly picked up where the last left off.

How spicy is the spicy baby octopus stir-fry?

Spicy jjukkumi stir-fry. Served on a large plate, the red, glossy sauce alone was enough to stir up my appetite.

Jjukkumi stir-fry topped generously with scallions and sesame seeds

Plenty of scallions and sesame seeds on top made it look even more appetizing.

Plump piece of jjukkumi picked up with chopsticks

This time I went with the spicy option, and the heat that lingered clearly in my mouth was the appeal. The octopus kept a plump, springy texture, and the sauce was rich enough to mix well with rice.

Personally, if you're sensitive to spice, I'd suggest starting with the mild level, and if you love spicy food, go ahead with the spicy option. Spice tolerance varies by person, so it's worth asking staff when you order.

Spicy jjukkumi placed on top of wrap vegetables

Putting the jjukkumi on top of wrap vegetables softened the spiciness nicely. The crunch of the fresh vegetables paired well with the chewy, sauce-coated octopus. It's good eaten heartily with rice, or wrapped lightly in perilla leaves or lettuce for a different mood entirely.

Rice mixed with jjukkumi stir-fry

I mixed some warm rice with a portion of the jjukkumi stir-fry and vegetables. The spicy sauce spread evenly through the rice, and the added crunch of vegetables made the texture even richer.

Rather than adding all the sauce at once, mixing it in little by little lets you control the spice level to your liking. Even the sauce left on the plate blended naturally into the rice for a filling finish.

What the pizza in Set A tastes like

The pizza that came with the spicy jjukkumi offered a sweet, savory break in between.

The sauce blended smoothly over the golden-baked crust, comfortably soothing the spiciness between bites.

The pizza was good on its own, but topping it with a bit of jjukkumi gave a unique mix of spicy and savory flavors.

After the meal, I finished off lightly with iced tea and ice cream.

Jjumikkumi: final verdict on the Gijang baby octopus lunch

If you're looking for a Busan Gijang lunch spot, Jjumikkumi is worth remembering for its spicy jjukkumi paired with a variety of side dishes.

  • A set that lets you enjoy jjukkumi stir-fry, pizza, and mukbap all at once
  • A menu you can mix into rice or wrap in vegetables in different ways
  • A clean, comfortable space suited to family outings or gatherings
  • A Gijang Gyori restaurant with takeout, delivery, and group reservations

It was a meal where a table as bright as a sunflower met sides as gentle as a rose. On a day when spicy jjukkumi comes to mind, this is a hearty, vibrant meal worth trying.
