Geojedo Grilled Fish & Ganjang Gejang (거제도생선구이.간장게장) is an all-you-can-eat grilled fish and soy-marinated blue crab restaurant on Gohyeonhang 4-gil in Geoje, Gyeongnam. On a seaside drive, the writer stopped by at 12 noon and ordered the grilled fish set: golden tilefish, flounder, mackerel and red sea bream with pot-cooked rice, plus a self-serve bar with jeotgal (salted seafood) and kimchi pancake. For a filling fish meal finished with sungnyung (scorched rice tea), Geojedo Grilled Fish & Ganjang Gejang is worth recommending.

Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Seomyeon Branch (옛날통닭앤탕 서면점) is a fried chicken and dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) pub on the old Baedaepo street in Seomyeon, Busan. With a baseball game on the screen, the writer ordered the boneless-and-stew set, a whole dakdoritang plus half a boneless fried chicken, and finished with pineapple sherbet. Yetnal Tongdak & Tang suits anyone who wants fried chicken and dakdoritang together and the first and second round of drinks in one spot.

Bean sprout hangover gukbap at Busan's BIFC: Yeosueseo Onnajin Gukbap

Yeosueseo Onnajin Gukbap BIFC branch is a gukbap (pork and rice soup) and suyuk (boiled pork) restaurant on the 3rd floor of BIFC in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, serving the taste of its Yeosu original that appeared on Sung Si-kyung's show Meokeul Tende. Two of us ordered the spicy gukbap set and the white gukbap set, each with a sample plate of suyuk and a refreshing broth packed with bean sprouts. For a hangover gukbap where one spoonful of broth settles your stomach, Yeosueseo Onnajin Gukbap BIFC branch is the place to go.

Sinchon Yangpuni Seomyeon Main Branch (신촌양푼이 서면본점) is a yangpuni galbijjim (spicy braised ribs served in a large brass pot) restaurant in an alley off Seojeon-ro in Seomyeon, Busan. On a Seomyeon outing with a partner, the writer ordered braised ribs for two with added Jeolla-style aged kimchi and a side of steamed egg, rolling the meat in the kimchi and in perilla-mayo wraps until the bottom of the pot showed. Sinchon Yangpuni is a good Seomyeon pick for a meal or drinking food on a day you crave a spicy broth.

Butter & Shelter Yeonnam is a butter sand (butter cream sandwich cookie) dessert café on a side street in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. Visiting with a partner, the writer explored Butter & Shelter's red brick floor, vine-covered terrace and vintage mirror photo spot, then tried an iced americano, a Shelter Einspänner, a crème brûlée butter sand and a Dubai butter sand. Butter & Shelter Yeonnam is a good stop when you want a pretty space and crisp butter sands together.

Ttukseom dessert café: 90-min limit, no weekday lunch wait, Notldun

Notldun is a cake and dessert café at Seoulsup 2-gil in Seongdong, Seoul, near Ttukseom Station, that makes all of its desserts in-house every morning. The writer and his wife walked into Notldun with no wait after a weekday lunch and had an iced Americano, a salted caramel mille-feuille and a pistachio madeleine, and liked the madeleine enough to buy more as a gift. Dine-in seating at Notldun is limited to 1 hour 30 minutes, but the salted caramel mille-feuille is a strong recommendation.

Crab shabu kalguksu and heart sujebi in Busan: Paldo Shabu Kalguksu

Paldo Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu kalguksu (shabu-shabu with knife-cut noodles) restaurant in an alley next to Paldo Market in Suyeong, Busan. The writer ordered the seafood shabu kalguksu at 15,000 won per person and ate everything from one pot: a spicy broth with blue crab, mussels and clams, then beef shabu-shabu, housemade kalguksu noodles, heart-shaped sujebi (hand-torn dough) and fried rice to finish. Paldo Shabu Kalguksu's seafood shabu kalguksu was a hearty, filling meal, memorable for its generous seafood broth and chewy noodles.

Jeonpo Station pork gukbap restaurant: miso vs spicy bowls, Sanbandeul

Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap (산반들 돼지국밥), Seomyeon Jeonpo Café Street Main Branch, is a ramen-style pork gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant in Jeonpo, Busan, about a 5-minute walk from Jeonpo Station Exit 7. At the kiosk, the writer ordered a miso pork gukbap set with a small torch-grilled suyuk (sliced pork) and a level 1 spicy pork gukbap set with fried chicken, added extra bean sprouts and vegetables, and compared the two bowls. With bowls piled high with bean sprouts, green onion and wood ear mushrooms, smoky torch-grilled suyuk and fried chicken that is crispy outside and juicy inside, Sanbandeul is worth recommending to anyone looking for a different kind of gukbap meal in Seomyeon and Jeonpo.

Gwangalli pizzeria date: birria dipped in sauce & lime, Extra Mile

Extra Mile is a pizza and pasta restaurant in a converted house down an alley in Gwangalli, Busan. On a weekend date, the couple passed the wait coloring a crayon sheet, then shared the Classic Set: tomato pasta plus a half hot honey pepperoni, half birria taco pizza, and dipping the birria taco pizza in its sauce with a squeeze of lime made it taste like a real taco. Verdict: Extra Mile's crisp, chewy crust was so good it was eaten down to the last edge, making for a satisfying Gwangalli date meal.
