Why Ganppa Maekju Sangnam Hyeongje Branch made a good second round

Ganppa Maekju Changwon Sangnam Hyeongje Branch is a Japanese-style beer bar right in the middle of Changwon's Sangnam-dong commercial district. Yesterday, after a light first round with a friend, we were trying to figure out where to go for round two, and I suddenly remembered the delicious Sapporo draft I'd had in Gwangalli. So we went! The atmosphere and the food were both so good that I thought this would be perfect as a second-round spot in Sangnam, so here's the post :)!!

Ganppa Maekju Changwon Sangnam Hyeongje Branch is smack in the middle of Sangnam-dong's main commercial area! Easy to walk to from the busy strip~ Thanks to the flashy exterior, it catches your eye from far away so it's easy to find.

Standing-only bar: what if you want a seat?

The biggest feature of Ganppa Maekju is that it's a standing-style beer bar. From the moment you walk in, the exotic interior makes you feel like you've stepped into a real Japanese izakaya alley — so fun to look around!

It's a casual vibe for grabbing a quick beer or standing around a bar table~ So if you want to sit down and drink calmly, this might not be quite your thing! The standing-bar atmosphere might be unfamiliar, but the place was already buzzing with customers who clearly love that standing energy :)

We ordered the Ganppa special tebasaki (chicken wing) set, and for round two, also the chicken skin tempura set! Pretty generous ordering for a second round..^-^

Sapporo draft served in a thin glass

Ganppa Maekju's signature is Sapporo draft beer!! I believe this is run in special collaboration with Sapporo~ You get a properly maintained, smooth Sapporo draft, and I never forgot the taste of that same draft I had in Gwangalli~

Ganppa Maekju serves the best draft in expensive glassware haha. Glass thickness really matters for beer, and using thin glasses gives you a super smooth, delicious beer!

As soon as it arrived, the staff told us it tastes best right now and to drink it fast, so I took a quick sip haha.

The guestbook sitting on every table

There was a guestbook on the table we sat at, and browsing through it was quite entertaining haha. I wrote something in it too, so I'll have to check it again next time I visit haha!

How does the Ganppa special tebasaki set taste?

The Ganppa special tebasaki we ordered first arrived. Fried chicken wings coated thin and evenly with a sweet-and-spicy special sauce — a really tasty menu item!

Crispy outside, moist inside~ Plastic gloves were provided so you can pick it up and eat with your hands, and picking the bones clean was surprisingly satisfying. The savory depth of the special sauce paired perfectly with the crisp, cold draft!

Prize draw and rock-paper-scissors event

Ganppa Maekju has all kinds of fun elements, like this lottery-draw event and a rock-paper-scissors game with the staff~ It really felt like we had a great, fun time!

I lost the rock-paper-scissors game, but the staff took a photo for us as a treat ^-^ hahahaha. They offered to take our picture while we were still mid-bite on the chicken wings, so we just snapped it as is haha.

Once you've tried Sapporo draft, you'll never forget the taste and you'll end up coming back... The sharp carbonation isn't too much, and the beer's own deep flavor really comes through, making it perfect to pair with light snacks..!!

Best seller: the fried chicken skin set

Second up was Ganppa Maekju's best menu item! We also had the chicken skin tempura. Crispy fried chicken skin drizzled with their signature sauce fills your mouth with crunch plus the distinctive savory flavor of chicken skin!

No gamey smell at all, just a salty, savory richness that spreads through your mouth — officially crowned Ganppa Maekju's best menu item..!!

Such a great spot to casually soak in the atmosphere and drink delicious draft beer, with an exotic interior and fun events on top! A perfect way to close out the holiday. Highly recommend Ganppa Maekju as your Sangnam second-round bar~!
