Solo-friendly cocktail bar with all bar-table seating in Dong-gu

I got to try some delicious signature cocktails at Yahwa Honsulbar (야화 혼술바, roughly "Night Flower Solo-Drinking Bar") in Dongmyeong-dong, Gwangju! It was my first time at a solo-drinking bar, so I went in with high expectations.

The atmosphere and how to find it

Yahwa sits on the outer edge of Dongmyeong-dong, and the sign is visible straight from the street, so there was no need to hunt through back alleys to find it! Even first-time visitors should have no trouble spotting it :)

Even before I stepped inside, the moody photo signage by the entrance caught my eye and made me look twice! Walk through the door marked "Yahwa" and you're straight into the main space. Maybe it was my first time at a solo bar, or maybe I was just excited for good cocktails — either way, I felt a little flutter of anticipation // 🤍

All bar-table seating: how seats are arranged

The mood is so pretty.. 🧡 When I'm drinking, I love spots with dim lighting that glows soft yellow or orange, and Yahwa hit that exactly. The whole place felt full of atmosphere. It was a great setting for quietly chatting over a drink — I guess that's what makes it a solo bar, haha.

Every table in the place is a bar table, so there's no inside/outside split — you just sit wherever's comfortable. My friend and I came late on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded, and true to a solo bar's spirit of everyone chatting and drinking together, the staff kindly seated us alongside other guests :)

Blankets, self-serve water, and the guestbook

The AC was cranked up, so we got to drink in a nice cool room — though personally I found it a touch chilly! 🥶 Luckily there were blankets set aside on one side that you could grab whenever you needed one, and water was self-serve too, which I appreciated. Love that blanket detail 🤍

Looking over by the window, I noticed a guestbook packed with notes from past visitors! It felt like everyone who'd passed through Yahwa had left behind a little memory, and it was fun to read through them 📝✨

The menu board and how to order

You order easily via QR code! But the physical menu board was so pretty that I snapped a photo of it separately 🤍 It's nice to browse the whole thing at a glance before choosing, so I'll show it to you here too :)

Yahwa's lineup was genuinely huge — signature drinks, highballs, cocktails, whiskey, tequila, even non-alcoholic options! I loved that they thought of a non-alcoholic menu for anyone who isn't much of a drinker. A menu for every taste!! 👀 Take a look at what's on offer! 🍸🥃

This is what the QR menu looks like! It walks you through a short intro to the bar and then a detailed description of every single menu item, so it's worth a slow read before you order 🤍 Each drink comes with a description of its vibe, which made it easy even for first-timers to find something to their taste. We browsed for ages before finally landing on what we wanted 🍸✨

Signature cocktails Yahwa and Kkotjam, plus Dohwa and a Negroni

We started with the signature menu! 🍸 First up: Yahwa (18,000 won) and Kkotjam (14,000 won). Since it was our first visit, we wanted to try the flagship drinks, so we went with the signatures 🤎 For a light snack alongside, we ordered the cassava chips (5,000 won)!

The menu just lists Yahwa's ABV as "???," but when we asked, we were told it's over 40%..! I really enjoyed Kkotjam, so if I come back, I think I'd order that one again.

For round two, we ordered the signature Dohwa (15,000 won) and a Negroni (15,000 won).

What's a solo-drinking bar like for a first-timer?

Honestly, since it was my first time at a solo bar, we just sat and chatted between ourselves! But a staff member came over with a piece of chocolate and struck up an easy conversation with us 🍫🤎 Thanks to that, there was no awkward gap — we just naturally settled into the vibe of the place!

After that, we ended up playing a card game and chatting about all sorts of things with other guests who came in later :) Despite the name, a "solo-drinking bar" isn't about sitting alone in silence — it's a place where you can comfortably mingle and even make new connections, which is what made it stick in my memory.

Wrapping up

My first solo bar turned out far more relaxed and fun than I'd expected 🤎 It was great catching up with my friend, and getting to play cards with new people made for a memorable, different kind of night. The vibe is beautiful and the drink selection is huge, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good-atmosphere bar in Dongmyeong-dong 🍸✨
