Brunch with Mom at Bueokgan Suwan Branch in Gwangju

Bueokgan Suwan Branch (부엌간 수완점) is such a famous brunch hotspot in Gwangju's Suwan district that hardly anyone doesn't know it. My son had plans, so I finally got a day out with my mom, and I thought, let's have some Western food for once, and took her to Bueokgan. I'd even held a parents' meetup here before.

Bueokgan Suwan Branch location, parking and outdoor terrace

Bueokgan Suwan Branch is near Sumun Park in Suwan, and for parking you can use the nearby alley streets. Look at the view outside: the terrace makes you feel like you're in Europe. On a nice, cool day it would make a lovely memory to eat out there on purpose. The tables and chairs are green too, so pretty!

Arriving at the 11:30 opening, and Bueokgan was still full

Even though we got there right at the 11:30 opening, the place was packed with customers. Lots of parents who had just sent their kids off to school were having a leisurely brunch. So I couldn't take proper photos of the interior;;; It was so pretty and I wanted to... what a shame.

What did we order at Bueokgan Suwan Branch?

We chose the green salad, abalone cream risotto and jambon pizza (jambon is French-style cured ham), with orange juice and an iced Americano as drinks. The set menu is cheaper when two or more people come, so it seemed like a good deal.

It's been so long since I had brunch! I'm not the only one who gets excited going to a hotspot brunch place, right? Everyone does, don't they?

Cozy brunch atmosphere at Bueokgan Suwan Branch

Bueokgan is a lovely brunch place with great atmosphere, I love this vibe. I couldn't photograph it because of the crowd, but the open view with lush green plants is so pretty too. It's just perfect for a relaxed brunch while enjoying the view out the window.

Green salad: sweet dressing and plenty of grated cheese

The green salad came out first. I don't really eat salad at home, so I have to make up for it here. Fresh vegetables and fruit, with a generous sprinkle of grated cheese on top~

The salad dressing was sweet and exactly my taste. Mom was really curious what kind of dressing it was, too.

Abalone cream risotto: a sure hit with parents

The jambon pizza and abalone cream risotto arrived. I worried Mom would get tired of Western food after a few bites, so I ordered the abalone risotto for her. Oh my goodness, it hit her taste exactly! She ate even more than I did, hahaha

See the color? It looks like they blended in a lot of the abalone innards. If it's done badly it would taste fishy, but there was no fishiness at all, just a nutty, mild flavor. I felt proud that Mom enjoyed it so much more.

I like abalone too, and I really loved this dish. If you're taking older family members, they'll definitely like it.

I had the iced Americano and Mom had the orange juice. Drinks are included in the set, so you can pick whatever you like. We had a good long chat while eating something delicious together for the first time in a while.

Jambon pizza: salty jambon with cream cheese

Personally I love salty jambon, so I ordered the jambon pizza, and I think I chose well. There's a generous amount of cream cheese on top of the jambon, and they go together perfectly. I wondered if it would be too rich, but no way...... the combination of salty jambon and sweet cream cheese is fantastic.

If you eat it with the pickles, they cut the richness right away, so it feels cleaner and fresher.

Is Bueokgan Suwan Branch good for a brunch get-together?

Bueokgan Suwan Branch is such a hotspot among school parents that there's no mom who doesn't know it. If you have a brunch meetup coming up, I think you'll like it. Whenever I'm craving pizza and risotto, I'll visit Bueokgan again.
