Hot-pink Sokcho market egg tart café: 4pm second batch, Doris

In short

Doris Patisserie is a hot-pink egg tart and baked-goods dessert café in Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. After the first batch sold out, the writer came back for the 4pm second opening and took away an Oak Box of original and cream cheese egg tarts (15,900 won) and a 6-piece financier set (18,000 won). The tarts were crisp outside and soft inside, the financiers crisp outside and moist inside. With friendly service, fair prices and great taste, Doris Patisserie is a dessert stop worth adding to any Sokcho trip.

It had the feel of a proper professional bakery in Sokcho, and I'd recently fallen for egg tarts, so my expectations were sky-high :)

Is there a wait at the 4pm second opening?

After the first batch's ingredients run out, they bake again and open a second round at 4pm. I went right at that time and two groups were already inside, so I waited before going in. Doris Patisserie is small, so only about 2–3 groups fit at a time.

For the 6-piece set you can choose your own flavors, and I liked picking what I wanted in a relaxed, uncrowded atmosphere.

Doris Patisserie menu: egg tarts, financiers and madeleines

The star of Doris Patisserie is the Portuguese-style egg tart 🤍

There were three kinds of egg tart: the basic original, walnut and cream cheese. The neatly arranged baked goods in the showcase made this dessert lover's eyes spin :) They looked like the textbook crisp-outside, moist-inside tart, and the prices were kind too!

Financier and madeleine lineup at Doris Patisserie

I only came expecting egg tarts, but the financier and madeleine lineup was wide: vanilla, lemon and Earl Grey madeleines, plus original, fig cream cheese, pistachio, coconut, yellow cheese (hwangchi-jeu), chocolate financiers and more. I boxed up financiers and madeleines too, and being able to pick my flavors was a big plus.

They were also running a visitor review event, and the gift was an egg tart or a financier, no less.

Are Doris Patisserie boxes good as Sokcho souvenirs and gifts?

Doris Patisserie wraps 6-piece sets in a box for free, so it was easy to buy without worrying about cost. Neat, pretty gift packaging 🎁 It's stylish enough that it works well as a Sokcho souvenir or a present.

I'm a dessert lover as it is, so

How to store and reheat Doris Patisserie egg tarts

Egg tarts are best eaten crisp on the day you buy them, but they're also good cold after refrigeration, and if you heat them in an air fryer or oven at 180°C for 2–3 minutes they get crisp again, I'm told. (Not the microwave!)

When I opened the oak box, the original egg tart and the cream cheese tart sat there glossy and glowing! The lid has detailed instructions on how to eat and store them, which made storing them easy.

Tasting a Doris Patisserie egg tart

How do the original and cream cheese egg tarts taste?

The Doris Patisserie egg tart has a crisp pastry shell, a moist inside and plenty of soft, sweet filling :) I tried one right away and another after reheating it in the air fryer, and yeah... the egg tart this Sokcho dessert spot is famous for really is different!

The cream cheese egg tart isn't heavy, greasy cream cheese. It tastes light and the egg flavor is stronger, so even people who usually dislike cheese can eat it.

How do the Doris Patisserie financiers taste?

Financiers that are crisp outside and dense and chewy inside, well, you know... Doris Patisserie nails that crisp-outside, chewy-inside financier texture, so I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a good financier in Sokcho :)

If you love sweet baked goods, this is a no-regrets stop on a Sokcho trip.
