Gimpo shabu-shabu ordered by table kiosk, rye noodles: Homilwon

In short

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a shabu kalguksu restaurant on Geolpo-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi, built around an agaricus mushroom broth. Ordered from the kiosk on each table, the Full-Table Special Agaricus Shabu Kalguksu for two (39,800 won) ran as a course of shabu-shabu, onsuyuk (warm boiled pork), stir-fried jjukkumi (baby octopus), rye kalguksu noodles and perilla oil fried rice, while the self-serve bar offered unlimited beef, mushroom and radish rice. The seasoning is mild and the portions are generous, making Homilwon an easy Gimpo kalguksu spot to take your parents to.

I sometimes get a craving for shabu-shabu, so I went looking for a clean, not-too-pricey shabu spot and found today's restaurant — here's my review of Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch!

Where Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is, and its hours

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is located at 142-17 Gadong, Geolpo-ro, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00.

There's a big parking area right in front of the restaurant, so even a group visit isn't a parking hassle — a solid Gimpo shabu-shabu spot in that regard.

Walking in, the interior was bigger than I expected, with fairly generous spacing between tables. Everything felt well kept overall, making it a comfortable place to bring the family.

One thing I liked was that there's a restroom inside, so you can use it comfortably.

Unlimited beef, mushroom and radish rice at the self-serve bar

At Homilwon Gimpo Main Branch there's a self-serve bar where you can help yourself unlimited times to geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), and beef mushroom radish rice! Made with Gimpo geumssal rice mixed with beef, mushrooms, and radish, it's tasty even eaten plain. Drizzle on some soy sauce seasoning and it's healthy and delicious 👍 But if you fill up on it before the shabu-shabu arrives, you might not have room for the main dish, so I'd recommend just a small taste haha.

The shabu-shabu came loaded with beef alongside bok choy, water dropwort (minari), bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and more — with the bright-colored wood ear mushrooms as a nice accent. The broth is made from agaricus mushrooms, so it felt a bit different from your typical shabu-shabu — a completely healthy taste. With minari added on top, the broth felt even cleaner and more fragrant.

The meat was Australian pork neck, and once we finished the shabu, the ingredients for perilla oil fried rice arrived all at once so we could fry up rice afterward. What really stood out — true to the name Homilwon (rye source) — was that the kalguksu noodles were made from rye rather than ordinary wheat flour!

How were the stir-fried jjukkumi and the onsuyuk?

Next came the stir-fried jjukkumi (baby octopus), with a subtle smoky char and spicy seasoning — perfect for alternating bites with the light, clean shabu-shabu.

The onsuyuk included in the special menu! Softly boiled Korean pork (handon) offered a different kind of appeal from the shabu-shabu. The meat was incredibly tender, and dipped in the accompanying honey garlic sauce it was light, nutty, and sweet.

Ordering all this turned out to be a massive amount of food for two people...

Finally, we barely managed to clear even the fried rice 😎 It had a really strong minari fragrance.

On the way out, we grabbed some mouthwash for a clean finish~ There's also misugaru (roasted grain powder drink) and popcorn available, so it seems worth joining the review event.

Final verdict on Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu in Gimpo

Being able to enjoy shabu-shabu, kalguksu, and fried rice all in one meal, plus unlimited refills of beef mushroom radish rice, made for a hearty, satisfying visit. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and the seasoning is mild enough to make it a great Gimpo kalguksu restaurant to bring parents to — that's the end of my Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu review~!
