Gimpo shabu kalguksu restaurant that packs leftovers to go: Homilwon

In short

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a mushroom shabu kalguksu (hot pot noodle) restaurant on Geolpo-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi, sitting between the Geolpo Xi apartments and Art Village. The writer came with her mother and ordered the Hansanggadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu for two — mushroom shabu-shabu, onsuyuk (warm boiled pork) and jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) stir-fry, plus beef mushroom radish rice from the self-bar — then packed the pork and octopus they could not finish and ate them for dinner. With a large parking lot and baby chairs, Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu works well for family meals and group gatherings.

Signature shabu-shabu spread at Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch

Today I'm bringing you a review of Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu, a Gimpo shabu-shabu spot I visited with just my mom. I've always loved shabu-shabu and had my eye on this place for a while, so we finally found time to go together.

Where is Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, and is there parking?

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch sits roughly between Geolpo Xi apartments and Art Village. The parking lot is quite spacious, so no worries there!

Following the navigation, I realized it's actually near my kid's kindergarten — I had no idea it was this close!

Even though we arrived toward the end of lunchtime, the place was still pretty full.

There's definitely a reason this place has a reputation as a Gimpo kalguksu (noodle soup) favorite 👍🏻

What comes with the Hansanggadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu for two

The Hansanggadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu for two comes with mushroom shabu-shabu plus onsuyuk and jjukkumi stir-fry. The basic shabu-shabu itself already includes meat, kalguksu noodles, and fried rice—

The menu was simple but every item packed in a lot (happy face).

I heard this place was even featured on VJ Teukgongdae (a Korean TV show), and once I tasted it, I understood why.

The savory mushroom broth was loaded with vegetables and mushrooms, and the meat that came with it looked so tender. Everything, meat and veggies alike, looked super fresh. So fresh~

The onsuyuk and jjukkumi stir-fry that came alongside were also standouts. The jjukkumi especially was spicy in just the way I like.

How to eat the self-bar beef mushroom radish rice

At the self-bar of Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, there's beef mushroom radish rice ready to go. Before the shabu-shabu started boiling, staff told us to go help ourselves.

When I went over, there was a whole separate self-bar with four rice cookers lined up. 🍚🍚🍚🍚

Mixing in sesame oil and the bibim sauce gave it a savory kick that really opened up the appetite.

Save room for the main dish, haha

Being able to freely grab kimchi, sweet chili sauce, and broth from the self-bar was another plus. (Though the trap was there was so much food I felt like I'd burst, haha.)

The order to eat it in: meat, then kalguksu, then fried rice

By the time we brought back the radish rice, the shabu-shabu was already bubbling away. We cooked the meat first and ate our fill, then dropped in the noodles, and finished with fried rice!

By that point I was already so full I put my spoon down and just sat there panting, but my mom cleared the fried rice to the very end — as expected of her..👍🏻

In the end we couldn't finish the pork and jjukkumi, so we packed them to go — the pork went to my kid and the octopus to us adults, and it made for a solid dinner too (even better this way ☺️).

They also had baby chairs on hand, so I thought I should bring my little one along next time. This place is seriously 200%, 300% perfect for family meals!! (I've already been telling everyone around me about it, haha)

Inside the dessert zone: mushroom tea, misugaru and popcorn

There's a separate dessert zone near the entrance, stocked with misugaru, popcorn, sanghwang mushroom tea, and coffee!!

I was already stuffed just from the meal, but with dessert on top I thought — ah, the owner really is trying to make sure customers burst, haha.

By the way, if you leave a receipt review, they'll give you caramel popcorn in a proper popcorn bucket, so I'd definitely recommend doing that if you visit.

Worth it with mom — and a family gathering spot next time

On our way out, we thanked the owner for the meal, and my mom and I agreed this place was really good and that we should bring the whole family next time.

The table behind us, who came in right as we were finishing, ended up packing food to go too, right after tasting it, haha. Seeing that, I realized it wasn't just us who felt that way.
