Gimpo Korean beef restaurant with table-side grilling: Grand Hanwoo

I was craving some really good beef in Gimpo for the first time in a while, so I visited Grand Hanwoo Gimpo Main Branch. When I go to a meat restaurant, I often agonize over which cuts to order, and grilling the meat myself can make it hard to eat while chatting. Here, though, the staff grill it for you, so I was able to have a really relaxed meal—and I was so pleased!

A Relaxed Dining Room and the Menu

The restaurant was neatly organized overall when we walked in, which made it a comfortable place to eat. I tend to picture meat restaurants as crowded with tightly packed tables and a little hectic, but this had a more spacious atmosphere than I expected, which I liked.

As we looked through the menu, we chose the 10th-anniversary set this time. It lets you try three cuts of beef at a better price, so it suited us perfectly since we wanted to taste different cuts of hanwoo (Korean native beef).

The 10th-Anniversary Hanwoo Set

First, they set out the banchan (Korean side dishes). I loved that the table was full of things I like, from green onion kimchi to japchae (stir-fried glass noodles).

Then the hanwoo arrived right away! The cuts in this set change every day, and ours came with sirloin, salchisal, and anchangsal.

The Convenient Staff Grilling Service

One great thing about Grand Hanwoo is its grilling service. Honestly, I am not very good at grilling meat, and there have been times when my boyfriend was so busy grilling that he barely got to eat. Here, the staff cooked it deliciously, so we could just relax and eat!

Sirloin, a Great Place to Start

They began with the sirloin. Its fine marbling brought out a rich, nutty flavor, along with the characteristic juiciness of hanwoo. It was delicious and easy to enjoy as the first cut.

Especially Tender Salchisal

The salchisal we had next stood out for being even more tender than the sirloin.

It seemed to melt softly in my mouth, so it was personally my favorite of the three cuts.

Chewy, Rich Anchangsal

Last came the anchangsal. Maybe because we had already eaten the sirloin and salchisal, the difference in texture was even clearer: it was pleasantly chewy, with a richer savory flavor as I chewed. Eating all three in order was fun because we could compare each cut's character.

Even in the photos, the meat had quite fine marbling, and once grilled, the beef itself had good flavor too. Having it with the side dishes kept it from feeling too rich, so I could enjoy every last bite.

For a Day You Want to Treat Yourself to Several Hanwoo Cuts

In the past, even when I wanted to try several hanwoo cuts, ordering them one by one made the price climb faster than expected. So I came in expecting it to be somewhat pricey because it was hanwoo, but I was more satisfied than expected that the 10th-anniversary set let us have sirloin, salchisal, and anchangsal all at once.

It is worth a visit on a day when you want more substantial hanwoo than your usual meat in Gimpo, or when you want to make an occasion of it for a date or family meal.
