Hey everyone, it's Papaya~ lately I've been really enjoying doing my own thing while traveling.

Have you all been to a solo drinking bar (혼술바, honsulbar) before? Coming to Korea, I found out they're a huge trend right now haha~😆 There was a 🥂 'Jejuahop Honsulbar' near where I was staying, so I decided to check it out for the first time~

The vibe was great, but what really got me was how easily people warm up to each other there, whether you come with friends or alone — laughing and chatting in no time.

What kind of bar is Jejuahop Honsulbar Gimpo Gurae?

Jejuahop Honsulbar Gimpo Gurae is a communal solo drinking bar on the 2nd floor of a building 397m from Gurae Station Exit 4. It opens at 8pm, and runs until 3am the next day Sunday–Thursday, and until 4am Friday and Saturday.

So I geared up all my courage and walked in.😁

Inside Jejuahop: atmosphere and seating

Stepping inside Jejuahop, I was struck by how cozy and comfortable it felt, like walking into a mountain lodge or my own secret hideout.🛖

I showed up right at the 8pm opening, but someone had already arrived before me.😄 The owner — who apparently gets plenty of Naver reviews calling him kind and good-looking — seated me right across from the person who came before me.😆 (He really was kind and good-looking~ I'll confirm that👍)

First glass: Peach Crush (10.5%), 14,000 won

For my first drink at Jejuahop I picked the Peach Crush — such a pretty color, great for lifting the mood, and a light, refreshing way to start without much alcohol pressure.

While sipping my cocktail, I got chatting with the woman across from me, who told me she'd just gotten back from a trip to Nha Trang with her parents~ We bonded instantly and talked non-stop haha (never expected to have a Nha Trang restaurant chat here in Gimpo~😄). Before long, one person, then two, kept filling in the seats.

Second glass: signature Black Ahop (13.8%), 13,000 won

For my second cocktail I ordered Jejuahop's signature, the Black Ahop, with its striking mysterious color. It's vodka-based, apparently inspired by the deep blue sea of Jeju.

By the time I got to my second drink, our group had grown to six people including me. It had been a while since I hung out with such a mix of ages and jobs — a soldier on leave, a former baseball player — and it was so much fun drinking together. Travel, dreams, everyone's own life stories... relating, laughing, chatting... I honestly lost track of time.

Third glass: gin and tonic (11%), 11,000 won

Aside from me and the woman across from me, everyone else turned out to be seasoned solo bar regulars~ (makes sense~ that endless 20-something energy~😆). Apparently there are quite a few solo bars just around Gurae Station.

I asked why, out of all those solo bars, they chose Jejuahop. They said every solo bar has a different vibe, but Jejuahop Gimpo Gurae is a place where you don't have to force your energy up — you can just relax and get to know each other through comfortable conversation. Chatting without pressure means people naturally click, and it's a great way to make good friends. 👍👍👍

The good-looking twenty-something owner came by a few times to chat with us too~ He said our group had such a good vibe that he suggested a game~ And just like that, we bonded even more over the game...

I... I came in at 8pm, but between all the laughing and talking, it was almost 1am😆 Wow~ I don't think I've lost track of time and had this much fun in years😆

What does the name Jejuahop mean?

Jejuahop apparently started out small, in the countryside village of Geumneung-ri on Jeju Island, in a cozy space with just nine seats and about nine pyeong (roughly 30㎡). The 'ahop' (아홉, meaning 'nine') in the name is also said to come from the Chinese character 情 (jeong), meaning the deep bond people build when they gather from different walks of life.

It struck me that this isn't just an ordinary bar for drinking — it's a special kind of solo bar where warm bonds and connections form through easy, pressure-free conversation.

As it got later into the night, more and more guests kept coming in, and the energy in the whole place hit its peak!

I had to head back to where I was staying since my energy was running low~ But it felt like I'd spent an unforgettable night, laughing and talking properly for the first time in a long while.
