Looking for a good bar near Dongnae Station, I revisited Lounge Mokhwa Dongnae Branch with my sister after a long while. This time I wanted both tasty food and a chance to finally catch up on everything we hadn't had time to talk about. I remembered the food and atmosphere being great from my last visit, so coming back felt natural.

From the moment you step into Lounge Mokhwa Dongnae Branch, you can tell it's a bit different from an ordinary restaurant.

The red lighting and neon signs, reminiscent of a Hong Kong alley, were especially striking. The whole space is wrapped in a soft red glow, and it genuinely felt like stepping into a movie scene.

What we ordered: saekong bajjak yurinji, 19,000 won

The first dish was saekong bajjak yurinji (crispy fried chicken with sweet-and-sour sauce). It's made with whole fried chicken leg meat, served with crunchy vegetables and cheongyang chili peppers.

Yurinji is normally fried chicken served with a tangy sauce and vegetables, and this version, using chicken leg meat, had a great texture — crispy outside, juicy inside.

What I liked most was the generous amount of vegetables. Fried dishes can get greasy after a while, but the crunchy vegetables and cheongyang chili kept it refreshing throughout. The mix of crispy chicken and crunchy veggies also made for fun texture contrast. If you like yurinji, this one's worth trying.

Steamed clams with risotto, 20,000 won

The second dish was clam hot pot with risotto — personally, my favorite dish of the day.

Spicy, refreshing clam broth loaded with clams, plus risotto on the side, made for a genuinely filling combo.

At first I thought of it as just a drinking snack, but by the end it had filled us up like a proper meal.

The clean, briny flavor from the clams and the spicy broth were great, and finishing with the risotto meant getting two kinds of enjoyment from one dish.

My sister and I kept saying 'this is really good' as we ate. Sometimes drinking-only snacks leave you feeling not quite full, but the clam hot pot and risotto combo held up perfectly as a full meal too.
