Hanwoo chuck flap tail at a Bangbae butcher restaurant: Seogyeong
In short
Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza Arts Center branch is a hanwoo butcher restaurant on the basement floor of 9 Myeongdal-ro in Seocho-gu, Seoul, where you look at the beef in the showcase and pick your own cut, grade and weight. After an exhibition at the Seoul Arts Center, a 15-minute walk away, two diners picked two packs — chuck flap tail 1++(8) at 39,300 won and beef navel end brisket 1+ at 26,200 won — and grilled them at the table, with a 4,000 won per person table charge. Choosing the meat felt like part of the meal at Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza, and it is worth a return visit.

A Bangbae beef spot, Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza near the Seoul Arts Center.
Hi everyone. After seeing a newly opened exhibition at the Seoul Arts Center, I was looking for somewhere to eat nearby and ended up at Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza Arts Center branch, famous as a Bangbae beef spot. It's a 15-minute walk away, so it's a great location for a meal after a performance or exhibition, but what I loved most is that it's a butcher restaurant where you can see the meat with your own eyes and choose the cut you want.
How far is Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza from the Seoul Arts Center? Location and parking
Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza Arts Center branch is on B1 at 9 Myeongdal-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul, a 15-minute walk from the Seoul Arts Center. Being so close to the Arts Center, it's easy to get to whether you're looking for a meal before or after a show.
It was also convenient that you can use the building's basement parking. I parked on B2, and if you tell them your license plate, you get 3 hours of parking support.
Inside Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza: atmosphere and room seating

This Bangbae spot is on B1, and overall it's clean, modern, and pretty spacious.

Besides hall seating, there are also room-style spaces, which looked good for family meals, gatherings, or work dinners.
How ordering works: picking your own hanwoo from the showcase

Walk into Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza and you'll see a variety of hanwoo (Korean native beef) packed and displayed in a showcase. Instead of picking cuts off a menu like a typical BBQ place, you check out the hanwoo displayed in the store and choose the meat you want before eating.

Being able to check the condition and marbling with your own eyes before choosing made it easy to gauge freshness and pick a cut to my taste. I'd recommend browsing the display slowly first, then deciding on the cut and budget you want. Each pack shows the cut, grade, weight, and price separately — it really feels like shopping at a butcher shop!

Since the weight and price differ by cut, choosing according to your group size means you won't have leftovers. We were going to get an assorted platter for two, but it looked like way too much, so we just picked two packs.

There was also a well-organized self-serve corner on one side of the restaurant.
- Hanwoo sirloin flap, 1++(8) grade: ₩39,300
- Hanwoo brisket, 1+ grade: ₩26,200
That day we picked hanwoo sirloin flap at 1++ grade and hanwoo brisket at 1+ grade. Pairing a heavily marbled cut like sirloin flap with a leaner, cleaner-tasting cut like brisket is great for comparing different flavors. The sirloin flap had tight, dense marbling that looked tender just by looking at it, while the brisket had a clean, different kind of flavor from the sirloin flap.
How much is the table charge, and what side dishes cost extra?

Since Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza is a butcher restaurant, there's a separate table charge on top of the cost of the meat. The table charge was ₩4,000 per person.

We added steamed egg (₩5,000) and chadol doenjang stew (₩12,000).

If you only look at the meat prices when visiting, the total can feel higher than expected, so it's good to factor in the table charge along with the cost of the meat ahead of time. Especially with a larger group, checking the headcount and table charge before choosing the meat makes it easier to stick to a budget!

The table setting came with a nice variety of neat, well-prepared side dishes.

If you want to enjoy the taste of the hanwoo itself, dip it in salt, and if you want a bit more variety, pair it with the side dishes — they were all delicious too.
How the chuck flap tail and navel end brisket tasted, grilled at the table

We grilled the brisket first, and it had a bit more chew than the sirloin flap, with a nutty flavor that came out more the more you chewed. It had just the right amount of fat so it wasn't dry,

and dipped lightly in salt or wasabi, the clean, distinctive flavor of hanwoo really came through. Seriously recommend the wasabi!

The moment the sirloin flap hit the grill, a nutty aroma rose up right away. Since it's a marbled cut, it worked better to sear the surface quickly rather than cook it too long.

Cooking it just enough to keep the juices in gave a tender texture and rich beefy flavor. It really melted in my mouth. It's a different kind of fun from a typical BBQ place, and since the marbling and color vary by cut even within the same hanwoo, the process of choosing the meat itself felt like part of the meal.
Who is Seogyeong Hanwoo Plaza best for?
This place suits anyone near the Seoul Arts Center who wants to pick out fresh hanwoo themselves and grill it, or who wants a high-quality meat meal with family, friends, or acquaintances. I'd like to come back here every time I'm at the Seoul Arts Center — definitely planning to return.
