Gwacheon Korean restaurant for beef seaweed soup: Haenon Miyeok

On a rainy night, we were craving a warm, filling meal, so we headed to a Korean restaurant in Munwon-dong, Gwacheon. Since the food is mild, it is a great place for everyone from children to parents to enjoy together, so I would recommend it to anyone looking for a family gathering spot in Munwon-dong, Gwacheon! We ordered two beef miyeokguk (seaweed soup) set meals.

Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch with dedicated parking

The exterior of Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch was neatly kept, making it easy to find even on a first visit. It also has its own dedicated parking lot, which made visiting by car convenient. Parking can be a burden when dining out with children or parents, so it was nice to have one less thing to worry about.

A calm and comfortable interior

The interior was clean overall, with a calm atmosphere. It had a distinctly modern, relaxed feel! The ceilings were high and the tables were well spaced, too! Everything was so neatly arranged that it felt wonderfully comfortable~!

Seaweed soup set meals cooked to order

Among the various seaweed soup set meals, we chose two beef seaweed soup sets. With rice and several side dishes served alongside the soup, it looked like a truly filling meal! I think it would suit anyone looking for a gentle-on-the-stomach menu or a great Gwacheon Korean restaurant with a clean, home-style meal. Better still, this is not soup made ahead of time—they freshly cook it once an order comes in, so I was even more excited~~

Side dishes and the self-service bar

Before the seaweed soup properly arrived, a neat spread of side dishes that pair well with it was set out! There is a saying that food that looks good tastes good too, and that was exactly what I thought when I saw the side dishes at Haenon Miyeok, a Gwacheon favorite!

There was such a delicious lineup of side dishes: salad, flounder, chicken breast dressed in sweet-and-sour sauce, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), stir-fried gungchae, fried eggplant, stir-fried scallops, and kimchi! It was a feast for the eyes and everything tasted so good~ I especially loved the scallops and sweet-and-sour eggplant, so I went back for refills several times~~

The varied side dishes made the meal feel much more abundant than simply mixing rice into seaweed soup. We could comfortably get more of any side dish we wanted from the self-service bar, without feeling self-conscious. Isn't the self-service bar incredibly elegant, too?

Mild and nutty beef seaweed soup

The beef seaweed soup arrived bubbling hot, with a rich yet mild broth that was not overly seasoned~

The seaweed was tender, and there were plenty of large cubes of beef! Maybe because it contained perilla seed powder, it had a lovely nutty flavor! Mixing the rice into the broth and eating it with the side dishes made me feel warm right down to my stomach~!

Free hijiki rice refills with one menu per person

One great thing about Haenon Miyeok Gwacheon Direct Branch: rice refills are free when everyone orders one menu item! I do not know about women, but men can polish off a bowl of rice in no time, right?! Just ask for more rice anytime, and they will refill it with delicious rice containing hijiki seaweed~

The seaweed soup portion was really huge, so we could not finish it and packed the rest up : ) I think it would be perfect for quickly mixing with rice for the kids at home, so I recommend getting it to go, too.

Haenon Miyeok, where I visited, was truly child-friendly~ There are high chairs, and they say pregnant guests and birthday guests even receive abalone as a complimentary service!!! I will have to visit again on my birthday~ Rather than flashy or strongly flavored food, this is somewhere I would want to return on a day when I crave warm Korean food that sits comfortably in the stomach.
