West Suwon grilled fish dinner with hot chocolate: Godeungeo Suwon

I once visited Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch with my family, and this time I came back with my husband.

Revisiting a place you've been to before usually means the food or atmosphere left a good impression. Even though we came on a weekday evening this time, there were quite a lot of customers — popular places really do earn their reputation for a reason. Last time I came just thinking about grilled fish, but this time I picked a menu that let us eat grilled fish, sashimi, and bulgogi all at once.

Where is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, and is there parking?

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is located at 1731 Seobu-ro, 1st floor, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi. Just search for the restaurant's name in your navigation app — it's also accessible from Suwon Station, Gosaek Station, or Omokcheon Station. What was especially great for us, since we drove, was the parking. There's a large private parking lot, so we didn't have to worry much about finding a spot.

Parking is subtly stressful when you're eating out as a family or in a group, but here the parking space was generous enough to make the visit easy. So if you're looking for a good restaurant in West Suwon with hassle-free parking, this could be a good option too.

How busy is it on a weekday evening?

We visited on a weekday evening, and there were more customers than I expected.

It was crowded when we came with family before too, and it was the same this time. The restaurant is spacious, so even with a lot of customers it didn't feel cramped, and there are group tables that seem good for family gatherings or dining with several people.

High chairs are available too, so it seemed like a lot of families with kids come here. Since grilled fish is the main focus, it's also easy to pick a menu when eating with older family members.

What comes in the deluxe set for two, and what does it cost?

This time we ordered the deluxe set for two. The deluxe set was discounted from 32,000 won to 29,000 won at the time of our visit, so we chose that menu. Prices and discounts may vary depending on when you visit, so please take this as reference only.

The deluxe set for two comes with grilled mackerel + grilled sole (imyeonsu) + mackerel sashimi + croaker sashimi + bulgogi, so I liked that we could try several things instead of just one dish. Especially on a special occasion out with family, having sashimi and bulgogi alongside the grilled fish made the table look much more generous than grilled fish alone.

It didn't take long for the food to arrive after we ordered. The dishes started getting set on the table one by one — grilled fish, sashimi, stir-fried pork — and it was quite a generous spread for two people. Several banchan (side dishes) came with the meal too, and we could go grab more from the self-serve bar if anything ran low, which was convenient.

I usually like trying a little of each banchan and then grabbing more of whatever I like, and the self-serve bar was set up cleanly, so I could use it without any hesitation.

The country of origin was also clearly labeled for each dish, which was nice to be able to check.

Plump grilled mackerel and imyeonsu sole

The grilled fish was delicious, as befits the main dish. Both the mackerel and the sole (imyeonsu) had plump flesh — the outside was grilled savory and crisp, and the inside was moist. Eating it warm with rice really made me think this deserved its reputation as one of Suwon's best grilled fish spots.

The mackerel had that characteristic savory, clean flavor, and the sole's flesh was soft enough to pick apart easily. Grilled fish can end up tasting similar dish to dish, but eating two kinds together made it fun to compare their flavors. My husband said this tasted even better than when we came with family before. I was more satisfied with this visit too.

Mackerel sashimi, croaker sashimi and stir-fried pork

It was great that mackerel and croaker sashimi came with the set too. The sashimi was fresher than I expected, and having a different texture from the grilled fish meant we didn't get tired of eating as we alternated between them.

With stir-fried pork on top of that, there was plenty to eat with rice too. If someone who loves grilled fish and someone who loves meat come here together, there'd be little to argue about on the menu.

Between the two of us eating grilled fish, sashimi, and stir-fried pork, we ended up pretty full before we knew it.

So if you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Suwon and want a table spread with several kinds of Korean dishes at once, this seems like a great fit.

Finishing with sungnyung, sikhye and hot chocolate

To finish, we got to have sungnyung too. After eating so much grilled fish and banchan, finishing with warm sungnyung felt like it settled my stomach.

There was sikhye too, so I had a glass — drinking something sweet after the meal made me feel like I'd properly finished the meal.

There was also a corner set up like a small café off to the side. Coffee, hot chocolate, yulmucha (barley tea) and more were available, and I had a cup of hot chocolate that day. After eating a full meal and then having a drink on top of it, it really was a day of thoroughly stuffing ourselves haha.

Is this Suwon grilled fish restaurant good for family dining?

Revisiting this time, I could see why so many families come here. The restaurant is spacious, there's plenty of parking, and the menu is varied enough with grilled fish, sashimi, and meat that it's comfortable to bring parents along too, and it works well as a family dining spot. Even on a weekday evening like when we visited, it tends to be busy, so it might be good to visit with a bit of extra time.

Most of all, my husband said this visit was tastier than the last time he came with family, so as a couple, our satisfaction with this revisit was pretty high.
