Ansan restaurant for spicy pork ribs: Haemokjeong Daebudo Branch
In short
Haemokjeong Daebudo Branch is a Korean restaurant in Ansan, Gyeonggi, serving seafood and braised ribs together. I ordered the medium-spicy braised pork ribs and loved the meaty, easy-to-pull-off-the-bone ribs, chewy rice cakes, and rice mixed into the sauce. Verdict: a filling, special stop for a Daebudo drive.

The weather has been so nice lately that I went to Daebudo for the first time in ages👏 Since it had been a while, I wanted something more special than the seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) I always eat😉 There are quite a few good places in Daebudo, Ansan, but I visited Haemokjeong Daebudo Branch, known as a popular restaurant featured on TV and in a YouTube video with 2 million views. It is newly opened, but the combination of seafood and ribs felt so fresh. I went out to get some fresh air and ended up with delicious food too, so it was a lovely day.
Where do you park at Haemokjeong Daebudo Branch?
📢 Parking information You can park in front of the restaurant, and there is a large space behind it—though it is shady..👍

It was weekend lunchtime, so the parking in front was full, but I parked in the back👏

A menu that combines seafood and ribs
I was excited because this is a seafood braised-rib specialist where you can enjoy fresh seafood and ribs together😋 People often come to Daebudo for dates or trips, right? I thought it might be a place that can satisfy everyone’s tastes😉 There are also meal dishes available as single servings, but if you want a special and delicious meal, I recommend ordering a main dish🙏

Weekend lunch visit and reservation tips
The restaurant is quite spacious and has lots of tables👏 Most are four-person tables, and I noticed quite a few larger groups. They could ask the owner to join tables together, and suddenly groups of 16? 18? people would come in—they sat across separate tables🤪 It was full the entire time we ate👍 I made a reservation on Naver the day before I visited!! Daebudo gets lots of weekend visitors, so you may have to wait if you come at peak time. I recommend coming after one service period—or definitely make a reservation~~🙏

Ordering medium-spicy braised pork ribs
Each table has a burner in the middle, so you can keep your food warm throughout the meal😃 Seafood braised ribs, abalone seafood hot pot, Haemokjeong Special, boneless braised monkfish, and spicy braised pork ribs are the representative popular dishes, and I ordered the spicy braised pork ribs🙏

Side dishes you keep reaching for
The side dishes came out cleanly and neatly arranged👏 They were not the kind of banchan (Korean side dishes) you leave untouched—I kept reaching for them.

The miyeokguk (seaweed soup) was nicely seasoned and delicious👏 I mixed rice into it for my child! I liked its deeply flavorful broth, which was not overly salty👍 They also served cheonsachae, and there was a little mustard sauce underneath it, you know? It was much tastier with that sauce, and I loved the crunchy texture👍

Braised-rib sauce that was spicier than expected
✔️ Medium-spicy braised pork ribs The braised ribs are in the middle, with rice cakes and vegetables on either side, and the sauce was absolutely insane🤪 It was the medium level but spicier than I expected. Still, it was deliciously spicy, so I kept eating everything with the sauce🙏

There was a little minari (water parsley) on top, and it paired so well with the dish😃 I wish there had been a ton more minari! It would have been nice if they offered extra minari as an add-on🙏

A bowl of rice mixed with the sauce
I ordered a bowl of rice because I had to feed my child, and my husband and I split what was left👏 Mix it quickly with the braised-rib sauce and meat, and it is pure bliss😋 I did not order extra rice because I wanted fried rice later, but this alone was filling enough that I could not eat fried rice😭 Fried rice made with this sauce would be so delicious though~!!
The ribs still had bones, but the meat was wonderfully substantial and came off the bones so easily, making them comfortable to eat👏 Not only the meat, but also the rice-cake add-ons soaked in loads of sauce were delicious. The chewy rice cakes did not turn mushy, so their texture was great!

There were vegetables like onion, cabbage, and mushrooms too, and they had a nice, easy-to-eat texture👏 You should not eat them plain—you have to scoop up some sauce with them(?) for them to taste good🙌 It would have been nice to have even more vegetables!!

We ate nearly all the vegetables and rice cakes first, and in the end only the pork ribs were left🤣

I ate the last piece of meat, and some pieces were pure meat with no bone at all! It tasted much better than I expected, so I felt like I had found a bit of a hidden gem😃 It may be a hidden gem for now, but it is already getting so popular that I think there will be a wait soon!!
Why I recommend it for a Daebudo drive meal
I recommend Haemokjeong as a Daebudo restaurant because you can enjoy an uncommon menu made with fresh ingredients👏 Stop by for a hearty, delicious meal while you are out for a drive!
