I went to Hwaro Yangmi, a lamb restaurant I'd love to recommend for a group dinner near Sanghyeon Station in Gwanggyo. When I go out for lamb, the first things I check are whether there's a gamey smell, how tender the meat is, and whether the staff grills it properly for you. This visit to Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon checked all three boxes.

What I especially liked was the set that lets you try shoulder rack, lamb sirloin, and soy-marinated lamb ribs all at once — a must-visit if you're looking for a good lamb restaurant in Gwanggyo. Strongly recommend it if you're searching for lamb spots in Gwanggyo or Sanghyeon-dong haha, it's seriously so good ㅜ

Inside Hwaro Yangmi: tables split by low partitions

Tidy, well-organized interior of Hwaro Yangmi Gwanggyo Sanghyeon Station Branch

Walking inside, the interior feels tidy and well put together overall. It's a place for grilling lamb, but the space doesn't feel cramped and the tables are spaced comfortably enough for two people or a larger group. There are no private rooms, but the space is divided by simple partitions.

Grilling lamb can raise worries about smell, but the restaurant kept things fairly clean-smelling. So it seemed like a good spot not just for dates but also for people looking for a Sanghyeon Station or Gwanggyo group dinner restaurant.

Hwaro Yangmi, a lamb restaurant in Gwanggyo, ages its meat. It's not frozen — all of it is chilled-aged, which makes the texture really tender and the flavor cleaner. They also had plenty of Chinese liquors. There was Yantai Gaoliang and quite a few others I hadn't seen before.

Hwaro Yangmi serves a range of lamb dishes including lamb ribs and lamb sirloin. Since I wanted to try several cuts at once, I ordered the Special Mixed Set 490g. The set comes with shoulder rack + lamb sirloin + soy-marinated lamb ribs together.

Special Mixed Set ₩54,000, egg fried rice ₩9,000. I also added the egg fried rice to make sure I got some carbs in too. If you're visiting for the first time and can't decide what cut to try, starting with the mixed set seems like a solid choice.

The Special Mixed Set came out in under five minutes. The aged meat arrived right away. And Hwaro Yangmi's basic side dishes are genuinely delicious — lettuce salad, peanuts, pickled onion, chili, and wild garlic all seasoned in a way that paired perfectly with the lamb. The flavor was excellent.

The charcoal grill at this Gwanggyo lamb restaurant is fantastic. They loaded plenty of charcoal and the heat was strong.

Staff grill the lamb for you, start to finish

One thing I really liked about Hwaro Yangmi is that a staff member grills the meat for you the whole time. Doneness matters a lot with lamb, and the staff watched the meat closely and grilled it really well. The outside came out lightly browned while the inside stayed juicy, so I got to eat the meat exactly when it was most tender. If you're new to lamb, this kind of service is definitely convenient.

The staff member grills all the lamb personally, and they're clearly skilled at it. They grilled it so well that I could eat it right at its peak. They started with the shoulder rack and sirloin.

They kept checking the doneness and grilled it all the way through themselves, then plated the properly cooked lamb ribs for us, which made eating easy. That's why I thought it'd be a good restaurant to bring kids to near Sanghyeon Station.

Shoulder rack vs. lamb sirloin: how the two cuts compare

I tried the shoulder rack first, and a nutty flavor hit right from the first bite. It had lamb's distinctive character but barely any off-putting smell, and overall the flavor leaned clean and nutty. The staff grilled the outside golden while keeping the inside from overcooking, so the meat stayed tender instead of chewy. Personally, of the three cuts, the shoulder rack's clean flavor felt the most refined.

The lamb sirloin had a slightly different texture from the shoulder rack. Where the shoulder rack was soft and nutty, the sirloin kept a bit more chewiness. And most notably, there was almost no gamey smell. People often reach for sauces or side dishes to offset lamb's distinctive aroma, but this one wasn't off-putting eaten plain. So I thought it'd work well even for lamb beginners looking for a good spot in Gwanggyo.

After eating a while, your palate can start to feel a bit heavy, but pairing it with wild garlic resets things and makes you want to keep eating. I'd recommend topping each bite of lamb with a piece of wild garlic!

The standout: garlic-scented soy-marinated lamb ribs

Surprisingly, what stuck with me most was the soy-marinated lamb ribs. The marinade wasn't too sweet or sharp — actually pretty clean-tasting — with a subtle garlic aroma rising through it, and the flavor was really good. Best of all, when I pulled at a well-grilled rib, the meat slid right off the bone!

This was genuinely delicious. haha The marinade wasn't the kind that covers up the meat's own flavor — it complemented the lamb's character well, and I think it'd pair great as a drinking snack too.

Finishing with egg fried rice and mango ice cream

Egg fried rice ordered to finish the meal

It felt like too much to stop at just the meat, so I ordered the egg fried rice too. The fried rice wasn't heavily greasy — it was clean-tasting. Notably it didn't have that stale-oil aftertaste, so it worked well as a closing dish after the meat. If you want to properly round out your lamb meal with rice, order the egg fried rice too.

Mango ice cream dessert served after payment

Lastly, there was a palate-cleansing dessert too — mango ice cream. You can't eat it inside the restaurant, so you pay first and enjoy it on your way out!

Is Hwaro Yangmi worth it? Final verdict

Overall, this was a very satisfying restaurant in Gwanggyo. The shoulder rack was clean and nutty, the sirloin was chewy, and personally, the soy-marinated lamb ribs left the biggest impression. Next time, I'd be happy either to order the mixed set again or to focus on whichever cut I liked most.

If you're looking for a good lamb restaurant in Gwanggyo, this is worth a visit.
