Ansan late-night café for Basque cheesecake: Deep Dive

In short

Deep Dive is a dessert café in Jungang-dong, Ansan, with a gallery-like black interior and a wide dessert selection. We ordered Basque cheesecake, an egg tart, an iced vanilla flat, and an iced Americano, and the moist, creamy cheesecake paired especially well with the clean-tasting coffee. Verdict: Deep Dive is a great choice for cake and specialty coffee together.

Whenever I go out in Jungang-dong, Ansan, there are so many cafés that I always struggle to decide where to go. This time, I was meeting a friend for the first time in ages and was looking for somewhere a little special with a great atmosphere, when the desserts drew me to a café called Deep Dive (딥다이브).

Visiting Deep Dive café in Jungang-dong, Ansan

To give you the conclusion first: the desserts here are seriously insane. Especially if you love cheesecake, this is an Ansan Jungang-dong café hot spot you absolutely have to visit.

The chic black interior hits you the moment you walk in! Dark, muted black tones and modern furniture throughout make it feel more like a stylish gallery than a café. Tasteful framed art and posters hang on the walls, while cool sculptural objects are dotted around, so there is plenty to look at too.

The mood is calm but still hip, so it is great for a quiet catch-up with a friend and would make a lovely date spot too. The interior is just right for Instagram-worthy photos.

The desserts that kept us debating at the display case

But the real star of this café is the dessert display case. The second we saw it, both my friend and I were wide-eyed. There were so many cakes, each one looking incredible—it was exactly the kind of display that makes your head spin.

Inside the case were all sorts of treats, from colorful fruit tarts and rich-looking chocolate cakes to cakes piled with crumble and desserts topped with yakgwa, traditional Korean honey cookies that are especially popular these days.

The menu also had specialty-grade coffee, plenty of ades, and herbal teas, so there was no shortage of drinks to enjoy with dessert. We spent ages agonizing in front of the display case before finally choosing the Basque cheesecake and an egg tart. For drinks, I ordered an iced vanilla flat, which is similar to a vanilla latte, while my friend had an iced Americano.

Basque cheesecake and drink order

Basque cheesecake worth coming back for

We took a bite of the Basque cheesecake with high expectations and… wow, it was ridiculously good! My friend and I both shouted, “Amazing!” at the same time. Basque cheesecake can sometimes be too dry inside or taste only burnt, and there are plenty of disappointing ones out there, but Deep Dive’s was on another level.

The outside was smoky and well-baked with a wonderfully nutty aroma, while the inside was moist and creamy, melting softly in the mouth. It had a proper rich, deep cheese flavor without being overly sweet, so it was the kind of cake you could keep eating without getting tired of it. Honestly, it was so, so good that I would return for this cheesecake alone!

The egg tart we ordered alongside it had a crisp exterior and moist filling—a solid, classic version. Still, the cakes were so outstanding that next time I think we will go all in and order two kinds of cake instead. (The cake lineup is truly incredible!)

Specialty coffee that paired beautifully with dessert

Another hidden strength of this café was the coffee! When we ordered, I noticed that they use specialty blend beans from Accept Coffee. Even the phrase, “You deserve to drink good coffee,” stood out—and the beans really did have excellent flavor.

My friend, who had the Americano, was thoroughly happy with it, saying it was not overly bitter or too deep, and that the clean, nutty aroma of the beans came through beautifully. Rather than having the heavy weight of intensely roasted beans, it had the smooth, balanced character of specialty coffee, making it an easy, clean choice even for people who are usually particular about coffee. Paired with the sweet, rich cake, it refreshed the palate perfectly—the combination with dessert was just flawless!

It was such a satisfying time: a thoughtful gallery-like atmosphere, coffee with real bean flavor, and phenomenal desserts all in one place. If you are looking for an Ansan Jungang-dong café with a lovely atmosphere where both dessert and coffee are spot on, make sure to visit Deep Dive! I am already planning to come back soon for that cake-and-coffee pairing.
