Chinese restaurant in Suwon: cucumber Peking duck wraps at Gang's Duck
In short
Gang's Duck is a Peking duck specialist Chinese restaurant in Ingye-dong, a 5-minute walk from Suwon City Hall in Gyeonggi. Half a Peking duck was pre-ordered through Naver Reservation and arrived about 10 minutes after arrival, wrapped in thin pancakes with duck, scallion and cucumber and dipped in yajang sauce, alongside the lunch-menu dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly) rice bowl. The modern room feels nothing like a typical neighbourhood Chinese place, so Gang's Duck works for a date or a get-together.

I wanted to try something a bit different from the usual Chinese food, so I visited Gang's Duck, a well-known spot near Suwon City Hall. I'd heard it was one of the few Chinese restaurants in Ingye-dong where you can get Peking duck, so I was curious. I made a reservation ahead of time and went to try both the Peking duck and the dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly) rice bowl.

Where is Gang's Duck, and where do you park?
Gang's Duck is a Chinese restaurant in Ingye-dong, about a 5-minute walk from Suwon City Hall. There's no parking lot at the building itself, so when you make a reservation, they recommend parking at Suwon City Hall instead. Since it's only about a 5-minute walk from there, getting to the restaurant after parking wasn't much of a hassle.

The interior of Gang's Duck looks nothing like the typical Chinese restaurant image most people picture — it has a sleek, modern atmosphere that would work well for a date too. If you're looking for restaurants near Suwon City Hall and care about ambiance as well as food, this seemed like a solid choice.
Pre-ordering the Peking duck on Naver Reservation
How long the Peking duck takes to reach the table
Peking duck at Gang's Duck takes time to prepare, so I made a reservation before visiting. Through Naver Reservation you can pre-order a whole duck, half a duck, or dongpo-yuk!

I could see the golden, roasted ducks hanging up, with the fat well rendered off — they looked really lean and clean.

I got to watch the carving process up close too, and I'll admit I was practically drooling while watching, haha.

I'd already reserved the Peking duck ahead of time and added the dongpo-yuk rice bowl once at the restaurant. There's a lunch menu too, along with cold dishes, noodle dishes, and more — the menu was quite varied.

Half a Peking duck: rolling the pancakes with cucumber
Here's the half Peking duck that came out about 10 minutes after I arrived with a reservation!

Here's how to eat Peking duck the right way!

You place duck, scallion, and cucumber onto the pancake that comes with it, roll it up well, and dip it in yajang sauce.

Adding cucumber turned out to be a genius move! The crunchy texture paired really well with the clean, light flavor of the Peking duck.

Duck skin dipped in sugar
You can't talk about Peking duck without mentioning the skin! The crispy roasted duck skin, dipped in sugar, brought out its savory flavor even more, giving it a refined, upscale Chinese-food taste, haha. It felt distinctly different from the Chinese food I usually eat, which made it feel like a proper Suwon City Hall find.

Fried Peking duck bones
As I kept eating, they also brought out fried Peking duck bones. It's the bones left after the meat is carved off, fried until crispy — and there was more meat on them than I expected?! There was a faint hint of cumin too, but it wasn't too salty so it was fine to eat plain. Munching on the fried bones, I kept thinking they'd make a great side dish for drinks, haha.

Dongpo-yuk rice bowl, an easy lunch for two
I'd heard Gang's Duck is also known for its dongpo-yuk (braised pork belly), so I ordered the lunch-only dongpo-yuk rice bowl too. Ordering both a full Peking duck and a full dongpo-yuk dish for two people can be a lot of food, so having a rice bowl version was great for getting a taste of the dongpo-yuk without overdoing it.

The dongpo-yuk rice bowl comes with softly braised pork belly served alongside rice, egg, and pickles. Tasting the meat first, it was really well braised through. There was a hint of an exotic aroma too, but not overpowering — just right, and it paired well with the rice. The seasoning had soaked well into the meat, so the seasoning level was spot on. Next time I'll have to order the dongpo-yuk as a standalone dish instead of the rice bowl to really try it properly.
Is Gang's Duck worth a visit?

Gang's Duck let me enjoy Chinese food in an atmosphere quite different from the typical Ingye-dong Chinese restaurant. If you reserve the Peking duck ahead of time, there's the added fun of watching it get carved right in front of you, which makes it a nice choice when you want a meal that's a bit different from the usual. It's close to Suwon City Hall, so it works well for lunch, and the clean interior also makes it a good pick for a date or a group dinner in the evening. If you're looking for restaurants near Suwon City Hall, Gang's Duck is worth a visit for a change-of-pace Chinese meal, with both the Peking duck and dongpo-yuk to enjoy together.
