Hanam hair salon men's volume perm in 90 minutes: Moen.D Hair

My partner's hair had gotten way too long, so I took him to get it fixed up nicely before Chuseok! This time he went to Moen.D Hair Hanam Gamil, a hair salon in Hanam Gamil. He decided on a cut plus men's volume perm, so I was curious what kind of look would come out of it. Let me introduce it right away.

Where Moen.D Hair Hanam Gamil is, and where to park

Moen.D Hair Hanam Gamil is on the 2nd floor of a building with a Mega Coffee and a CU convenience store on the ground floor. If you're walking, just look for this building.

If you're driving, there's a blue arrow at the back past the CU — go in that way and that's the parking lot. Naver's description said the entrance was narrow, but it turned out to be surprisingly spacious when I actually went.

Get off the elevator on the 2nd floor and there's a big MOEN.D HAIR logo on the left, so there's no way to get confused.

Inside Moen.D Hair Hanam Gamil

Once you walk in, there's a row of lockers next to the counter where you can put your coat and bags. On the shelf behind the counter, hair products were neatly displayed.

The big windows made the salon bright and it felt clean overall. The seats had a good amount of space between them too. Through the windows you could see the apartment complex, and there were plants placed here and there, giving it a green, fresh feel.

What is a men's volume perm, and what does a down perm do?

What he got done at Moen.D Hair Hanam Gamil this time was a volume perm and a down perm. A volume perm brings out volume on top, while a down perm calms down side hair that tends to flip out — they're often done together for men's perms.

This is my partner's hair before the treatment. The side hair was long enough to cover his ears, and his bangs covered his eyebrows completely. Head designer Yeo Un kindly recommended a style that would suit him.

The plan was to trim everything short overall, leave the bangs a bit longer, and add volume on top. While cutting the bangs, they even put a clear shield on so hair wouldn't get on his face.

Rod winding, heat processing and neutralizing at Moen.D Hair

Once the cut was done, before rolling the rods, they carefully applied the perm solution all over his hair,

and rolled each rod onto the top section one by one — the hand movements were so delicate. Doesn't it look meticulously done!?

Once all the rods were rolled, they did heat processing with a perm machine.

While the heat processing was going, they brought over drinks and snacks. There was a nice variety — americano, green tea, burdock tea, adlay tea — so it was fun to pick something to drink.

After the heat processing finished, they sprayed on the neutralizer, wrapping a headband around his forehead so the liquid wouldn't run down. Starting right away, cut through shampoo and dry took about an hour and a half.

After the shampoo, he went back to the seat still in the gown and they finished up with a blow-dry.

The finished men's volume perm and how to style it at home

The men's volume perm is done! Compared to before, the long side hair that used to cover everything is now trimmed short and the top has gained volume. The bangs kept some length, giving the whole look a settled, put-together feel. A great look that doesn't need much styling.

Don't push the bangs too far forward — flick them lightly to the side instead

The designer even told him how to style it going forward.
