Hongdae bar for three-flavor sausages and honey corn: Kkoko Land

Kkoko Land, a Hongdae outdoor bar 10 minutes from Sangsu Station

Kkoko Land is an outdoor patio barbecue bar near Sangsang Madang in Hongdae, about a 10-minute walk from Sangsu Station. As the weather's been getting cooler, I've been wanting more and more to grab a beer outside, so this time I went to Kkoko Land.

It's set up in a fairly large space right in the middle of the Hongdae main strip. Since it's a barbecue place with outdoor patio seating, it was the perfect spot to visit on a nice-weather day like this.

Inside the Kkoko Land patio: table spacing and atmosphere

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Kkoko Land was the spacious outdoor tables. It was bigger than I expected, and the tables had generous spacing, which gave it a nice open feel. On a nice day, sitting on the patio seemed like more fun than sitting inside.

The weather happened to be nice on the day I visited, so there were quite a few people eating out on the patio. It suited the current weather perfectly — warm during the day, cool in the evening.

Another thing that caught my eye on Kkoko Land's patio was the screen set up for sports broadcasts. There was a baseball game on when I visited, and watching baseball while waiting for the food really made it feel like a proper outdoor fried chicken outing, haha.

If you're into baseball or other sports, it could be a lot of fun to visit on a game day and enjoy chicken and beer on the patio while watching.

QR ordering, welcome juice, and draft beer in picnic cups

Ordering was easy — just scan the QR code at the table. We ordered the charcoal-grilled sauced chicken barbecue and two draft beers to start.

Not long after ordering, they set the table and brought out a welcome juice too. It had that sweet taste I remember from trips to Southeast Asia, and it was nice to sip lightly before the meal.

Then the draft beer arrived. Instead of just bringing it over normally, they carried it in like a carrier, in cups that made it feel like a picnic — that was a fun touch, haha.

It matched the patio vibe so well I ended up taking an extra photo. Drinking beer while watching baseball, the mood was already great before the food even arrived. On nice days like this, that's kind of a small happiness, haha.

How the charcoal-grilled sauced chicken barbecue and honey corn taste

After a short wait, the charcoal-grilled sauced chicken barbecue arrived. It looked delicious right away — chicken grilled over open flame with a sweet-and-spicy sauce added.

Taking a bite, the sauce was pretty spicy, which paired really well with beer. The smoky chicken with that spicy sauce was a flavor I kept reaching back for. The corn served alongside was especially good too — not just plain corn, but honey corn (마약옥수수, sweet savory grilled corn) style, nutty and sweet, great to alternate with the chicken barbecue.

Looking to one side, you could actually see the meat being grilled over open flame. True to its name, the charcoal grilling gave off a subtle smoky aroma.

Super Pig handmade sausages in basic, spicy, and cheese

While eating, I got curious about the extra menu items, so I ordered Kkoko Land's Super Pig handmade sausages too. With a name like Super Pig, I expected something huge, haha — and it really was pretty big.

The sausages came in three flavors total — basic, spicy, and cheese — each tasting different. It was fun trying each one, and overall the springy texture was great. If you like handmade sausages, they'd be a good addition to order alongside beer!

Can you sit on the patio when it rains? The roof and restroom

Another thing I noticed while eating: at first I thought the outdoor area was completely open, but partway through I noticed the roof was closed. It seems the patio space is set up so you can still use it even on cloudy or suddenly rainy days, which I liked.

The restroom was also located inside the building, and it was bigger and cleaner than I expected — quite impressive. I actually overheard another customer coming back from the restroom saying, "Why is the restroom so nice?", haha. That kind of thing matters more than you'd think, and it stuck with me.

Who will like Kkoko Land?

That day, watching a sports game on the patio and eating charcoal-grilled sauced chicken barbecue with draft beer felt like a light picnic outing. Watching baseball while waiting for the food and chatting about the game over a beer gave it a different kind of fun compared to a typical fried chicken place.

Personally, I'd recommend the outdoor tables if you visit during nice weather like this. Even though it's right in the middle of the Hongdae main strip, the patio is wide and open enough that it didn't feel cramped, and it seemed like a great spot to visit with a group of friends to chat over chicken and beer. Especially on days with a sports game, watching it on the big screen while eating chicken on the patio would be fun. If it's a sport people cheer together for, like soccer or baseball, the atmosphere would probably be even better, haha.

Final verdict on Kkoko Land

Overall, the food at Kkoko Land was good, but what stuck with me most was being able to enjoy the spacious patio and sports broadcasts together. The charcoal-grilled sauced chicken barbecue had a great balance of spicy sauce and smoky flavor, and the honey corn was a nice side to eat alongside it. The handmade sausages we added on came in three flavors to choose from, which worked well as a beer snack. It's about a 10-minute walk from Sangsu Station, so it's easy enough to get to, and if you want to enjoy the outdoor patio vibe in Hongdae on a nice day, it's worth a visit. 🍗🍺
