I came here because I wanted Korean food made with real care—not simply a good-value place that piles on huge portions. I had heard that they prepare their dishes with long-aged vinegar and traditional jang (fermented sauces and pastes), so I made the trip one weekend. Let me tell you about my visit to Ochan Hoedong (오찬회동), a Yangpyeong Korean restaurant where the tidy course and deep flavors made me feel truly well looked after!

Private Rooms Suited to a Family Introduction Meal

It felt so neat on arrival that I was already looking forward to going in. Inside, the atmosphere was elegant yet understated, making it a lovely fit for a small gathering or a family introduction meal. Along one side, teacups, tableware, and jars of vinegar were lined up, which was quietly fun to browse too.

There are also well-arranged private rooms, and I thought they would be perfect for an important family introduction meal or a meal with your parents. I liked that the cozy, quiet setup lets you focus on conversation throughout the meal.

On the way out, I noticed they also sell their house-made vinegar and seed soy sauce separately, and they looked like nice gifts to pick up.
A Course Flowing with Fermented Vinegar and Aged Jang

The welcome course that began the meal was a vinegar drink made by aging rosemary for three years, along with gim bugak (crispy fried seaweed chips).

The tangy, fragrant vinegar drink really woke up my palate, while the crisp, nutty gim bugak gently whetted my appetite.

Next came peanut and chestnut juk (rice porridge), whose rich nuttiness and gentle sweetness came together to warm and comfortably fill my stomach.

The Yangpyeong field salad of the day came next, and its house-made fermented-vinegar dressing made it especially refreshing.

The fermented-vinegar acorn jelly mustard salad brought together the slightly bitter jelly, sharp mustard, and savory depth of fermented vinegar beautifully. The acorn jelly was served dried, which I had never tried before, so the texture was fascinating haha.

The assorted japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) made with Yangpyeong’s local mushrooms had its noodles cut short, so it was wonderfully easy to slurp up neatly.

The main, Korean beef tteokgalbi (grilled minced-beef patties) with seed soy sauce, was saturated all the way through with deep soy flavor and full of juices.

The 10-year-aged doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew) that followed had such profound, savory depth that its earthy aroma lingered throughout my mouth, and it paired beautifully with lotus-leaf rice scented with the leaf.

Finishing neatly with strawberry vinegar tea and fruit dessert, this was a meal that was never excessive and left my stomach feeling truly comfortable. Every carefully made course did its part, and I really got to experience what makes this Yangpyeong Korean restaurant special. With no overpowering flavors, it lets the ingredients’ deep flavors shine, making it just right for bringing your parents or visiting with someone dear. Considering the care and depth in the food, the trip all the way to Yangpyeong felt more than worthwhile.
How to Enjoy Fermented Vinegar Even More

Rather than drinking the rosemary fermented vinegar served before the meal all at once, it is better to sip it slowly and let it settle your palate. Taste gentler dishes such as japchae or salad first, one by one, to better notice the clean aroma distinctive to house-made vinegar. After the meal, I also recommend looking through the house-made seed soy sauce and strawberry vinegar in the restaurant refrigerator and picking up a fermented vinegar that suits your taste.
A Relaxed, Refined Meal in Yangpyeong

If you are looking for refined Korean food and deeply developed fermented flavors, I recommend Ochan Hoedong, a Yangpyeong Korean restaurant. Its private rooms are tidy and polished, making them very suitable not only for family introduction meals but also for a parent’s birthday gathering. Come enjoy an unhurried, feel-good meal at this Yangpyeong Korean restaurant, where long-aged, deep flavors are served with care.
