Hwaseong Korean barbecue with pre-grilled pork: Morakmorak
In short
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch is a Korean barbecue butcher restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where diners select their own meat. We had 300g pork belly and 250g pork jowl, plus complimentary yukhoe, tacos, and beef-bone-broth ramen. Verdict: a spacious, camping-themed choice for family meals or group dinners.

A camping-like atmosphere and ample parking

Order meat here and you get complimentary yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), tacos, and ramen in beef-bone broth. Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang had such a strong camping-trip feel, and the huge parking lot made the visit easy too :3

There is a dedicated lot right beside the restaurant, roomy enough for about 20 cars, so there is no need to worry about parking even if you drive.

The scale of the exterior catches your eye right away. It has a camping-ground atmosphere too, so it felt like we were out for an adventure!

This is the water-aging maturation cabinet in front of the restaurant! I had never seen one this large at a restaurant before. You could really feel how seriously the owner takes aging meat.

Spacious seating for work dinners and family gatherings
Once inside, the restaurant was very spacious too.

The standard seating is generously sized, and there is plenty of space between tables. Perfect for a company dinner or a group gathering!

Ocean videos play along the wall, which quietly added to the atmosphere haha. There is also a cushy U-shaped seating area, so it would be comfortable even for a long meal—and great for choosing seats when dining with children or treating your parents.

The self-service bar was kept neat, with ssam vegetables, side dishes, and taco ingredients all set out separately, so you can pick up only what you need.

Best of all, the self-service bar is divided into three sections, so people do not crowd around one spot and you can grab what you need right away.
Choose a cut and have it sliced to order
The meat refrigerator was enormous, like one at a professional butcher shop. There were so many kinds of meat, making it fun to choose by cut; each package was vacuum-sealed, so everything looked neatly packed and fresh in color.

Around the corner, beef was on the left and pork on the right, making it easy to choose and pick up what we wanted haha. Some aged pork comes vacuum-packed, but if there is a cut you want, they will slice it fresh in 100g increments.

They did not have pork belly in the weight we wanted, so I asked the owner for 300g! They sliced exactly the amount we wanted right in front of us and even asked how thick we wanted it haha.

After ordering the meat, we returned to our table and looked over the menu too. Side dishes and meal items are listed separately, so you can choose any extras from there.

Complimentary yukhoe and refillable sides first
This was the basic table setting! Four sauces per person, one of each kind. And complimentary yukhoe arrived too 🥰 We started with a bite of yukhoe before the meat~
The muksabal (acorn-jelly soup) was seriously a gem. I normally always order naengmyeon with meat, but I did not even think of it here. I got one refill, haha. The seasoned scallion salad was so good too—I piled it high and high on the meat.

The doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew) can be refilled with both broth and ingredients, so if you run short, you can cook up more! Break the egg yolk and stir it through. The yukhoe tasted unmistakably fresh! It was clean with no off smell at all, and the meat was tender yet pleasantly chewy, not tough. Mixing in the yolk added extra nutty richness, so you could really taste it at its best.

A meal of pre-grilled meat and tacos
The meat arrives pre-grilled, and the owner slices it right in front of you to your preferred thickness. It was so convenient: we could put the pre-grilled meat straight onto the grill without having to cook it from scratch, with no splattering grease and hardly any wait haha.
We put the vegetables that came with it on the grill too~ Grilling the vegetables alongside the meat made the grill look even more abundant haha. The doenjang stew started bubbling at just the right time, perfect for taking bites with the meat haha. Adding a little more Cheongyang chili from the self-service bar gave off a pleasantly spicy aroma that really woke up our appetites.

The doenjang stew was packed with vegetables too. Its spicy, savory broth was perfect with the meat, and I thought it would be absolutely delicious simmered down with rice as doenjang sulbap (rice cooked in soybean-paste stew), haha.

For the first bite, a dip in salt. Then I added a little wasabi, which cut through the richness perfectly! Since it came pre-grilled, the outside browned beautifully while the inside stayed moist—so good!

I wrapped pork jowl with scallion salad in ssam (a leafy wrap), then made tacos too, and it was so fun trying all the different combinations lol. One kind of meat could be enjoyed in so many ways—it felt like making all sorts of dishes with it.

Finish full and satisfied with beef-bone-broth ramen
There were so many basic side dishes that we filled up sooner than expected while trying this and that ㅠㅠ But ramen cooked in beef-bone broth is impossible to resist! The self-service bar had two kinds: Jin Ramen Spicy and Mild. Mild Jin Ramen is the right match for beef-bone broth, of course haha. It was the perfect hearty finish.
This was a comfortable place with a camping-like atmosphere, a spacious dining room, and plenty of seating. It is great for group work dinners or family gatherings; as befits a butcher restaurant, you can choose fresh meat yourself, and the complimentary yukhoe, tacos, and beef-bone-broth ramen make eating barbecue here even more fun!
