Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch address and signature-dish information

When you travel to Jeju, pork noodle soup is one of those dishes you have to think of at least once, right? This time, while looking for an Aewol lunch spot with our two kids, we visited Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점). When traveling with children, I always check first whether there are dishes that are mild and that the kids can eat too. They had everything from pork noodle soup to bibim guksu and dombe naeng suyuk, so it was easy to order for both the kids and the adults.

Order of pork noodle soup, bibim guksu, and dombe naeng suyuk

There were two adults and two children, so we ordered two rich beef-bone pork noodle soups, one bibim guksu, and one dombe naeng suyuk. Rather than ordering only pork noodle soup, getting the bibim guksu and dombe naeng suyuk too made for a great spread for the four of us to try a little of everything.

Aewol pork noodle soup, starting with the rich beef-bone broth

Rich beef-bone pork noodle soup

The first thing we tried was the rich beef-bone pork noodle soup. The milky-white broth was topped generously with pork, and it looked filling just sitting there.

Starting with the broth, it really did have the deep flavor of beef bones, just as the name suggested. It was not aggressively spicy or overpowering, so the noodles and pork were easy to eat together, and the warm broth made it a satisfying meal.

A warm bowl of beef-bone pork noodle soup

We visited with two children, and the pork noodle soup worked well for them too. The beef-bone broth was not spicy, so it was easy to portion out noodles and pork for them, and we could share it without ordering a separate kids' meal.

Pork noodle soup that is easy to share with a child

When you travel around Jeju with kids, you end up looking for something adults want to eat and children can enjoy too, right? In that sense, pork noodle soup is a dish that family travelers looking for an Aewol lunch spot will enjoy, young and old alike.

Bibim guksu that goes well with Jeju pork noodle soup

Bibim guksu ordered with pork noodle soup

Along with the two pork noodle soups, we ordered one bibim guksu. It had a completely different appeal from the warm, rich beef-bone pork noodle soup, so personally, I was really glad we ordered them together!

Bibim guksu with sweet-and-tangy seasoning

The sweet-and-tangy seasoning really woke up the appetite, and having bites of bibim guksu in between the beef-bone pork noodle soup kept the meal from feeling heavy. If you are visiting in a group, I recommend mixing in one bibim guksu to share, like we did, instead of ordering only pork noodle soup for every person.

The combination with dombe naeng suyuk

Dombe naeng suyuk side dish

For a side dish, we ordered dombe naeng suyuk. It is a good addition when noodles alone feel a little lacking; it went well with the pork noodle soup, and it was even tastier with the bibim guksu.

I especially recommend taking a bite of bibim guksu with the dombe naeng suyuk!

The rich beef-bone pork noodle soup, sweet-and-tangy bibim guksu, and clean-tasting dombe naeng suyuk all had different flavors, so even with several dishes, nothing felt repetitive.
