Suwon Korean barbecue birthday dinner at Jipbul Taebaek Ingye

While my sibling and I were wondering what restaurant Dad would like for his birthday, we picked Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch (짚불태백 수원인계점), made a Naver reservation, and went! You can’t go wrong with meat! 🥩 And prime ribs aren’t something you get to have every day, haha. To give you the conclusion first: we were totally satisfied 😆

A spacious Korean barbecue spot in bustling Ingye-dong

Jipbul Taebaek is in the busy Ingye-dong area, so it is easy to get to. The dining room is fairly spacious too, with a mix of families, company dinner groups, and other gatherings. As you can see, the tables are generously spaced, making it comfortable to eat.

The meat is first seared over charcoal, then smoked with rice straw to maximize that straw-fire aroma! I was excited from the atmosphere alone 🤭

Ordering everything from prime ribs to sides

• Buckwheat bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles)

We ordered a nice variety!

Once we sat down and ordered, a wide selection of banchan (Korean side dishes) arrived. The sauces, kimchi, and pickles that went so well with the meat were all neat and varied—so good!

Here comes the charcoal~ along with kimchi and bracken fern to grill with the meat! You have to watch the prime ribs being pre-grilled! 🍖 Definitely order the prime ribs!

Straw-fire prime ribs grilled by the staff

The staff grilled everything themselves from start to finish, so we could eat the meat at its best without worrying about messing up the grilling 😋

It was juicy, with a subtle straw-fire aroma worked into the meat. Such great flavor!

It was delicious even dipped only in seed soy sauce, and also great with neungi mushroom pesto and wasabi!

We picked up wrap vegetables, chili peppers, and garlic from the self-serve bar and properly dug in 🥬

Cold noodles and cheese steamed egg that paired beautifully with meat

A side dish my sibling absolutely cannot pass up when we eat meat 🤣 The buckwheat bibim naengmyeon was sweet and tangy, so naturally it went perfectly with the meat.

The triple-cheese steamed egg had plenty of cheese piled on top, but it was not salty; I loved its soft, savory flavor. A real meat restaurant needs great sides too, and this place absolutely gets my approval! 💯

The birthday yukhoe event we received on the day

Since it was Dad’s actual birthday, we could get the birthday event too. They gave us complimentary yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), even putting a sparkler candle in it and making it look like a cake 🎆 Hahaha! We had accidentally left the cake at home, but Dad loved this unexpected event, and the whole family could enjoy the meal in a great mood.

Also satisfied with the pork jowl and pork neck

We wanted to try a variety of things, and these were recommended, so we ordered one serving each of whole pork jowl and pork neck.

I thought only the prime ribs would be good, but nope! The whole pork jowl was chewy and savory, while the pork neck was tender rather than dry and delicious too. All three were great! The pork was especially amazing wrapped with the complimentary rice-cake wrap and kimchi.

Lastly, they even separated every bit of meat attached to the prime-rib bone for us, so we could comfortably eat and chat as a family. Loved that.

Tortillas through the Naver review event

A staff member told us about the Naver review event, so we joined right away!

They provide tortillas, guacamole, and salsa together. Wrapping the meat that had been attached to the prime-rib bone in a tortilla gave it such a different, delicious flavor. So legit! 👍🏻 The standard set-up is already good, but I recommend trying it this way too!

Final thoughts on Dad’s birthday family dinner

We came for Dad’s birthday, and both the food and service were satisfying, making it a lovely family dinner! It would be great in Ingye-dong not only for family meals, but also for a friends’ gathering, company dinner, or date. I need to come back for the straw-fire baekban set lunch too!
