Lately, I’ve been craving spicy, chewy dishes, so I went out for some delicious jjukkumi (webfoot octopus). Actually, I had agu-jjim (braised monkfish) here before, and I remembered the seasoning being so tasty and clean. I figured that if their agu-jjim was that good, the jjukkumi had to be good too—so I came back for another visit 😀

As soon as you walk in, the spacious, well-kept interior catches your eye. The tables are comfortably spaced too, so it never feels cramped while you eat. It has a pleasant, warm atmosphere that works anytime you want a neatly prepared Korean meal, whether for a family dinner or a group gathering.

Side dishes that rival a Korean set-meal restaurant

Substantial Korean set-meal-style side dishes

Not long after ordering, a generous spread of neatly arranged side dishes arrives—every bit as substantial as at a Korean set-meal restaurant!

Standard side dishes including japchae and salad

The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) wasn’t soggy; the noodles were springy and perfectly seasoned, making it a side dish I kept reaching for 👍 The salad whets your appetite before the meal and gently balances the spicy seasoning. And personally, I absolutely love myeongnan (seasoned pollock roe), so I was thrilled that it came as a standard side ❤️ Overall, the side dishes weren’t overly seasoned, so they paired beautifully with the main dish.

At last, two servings of the jjukkumi I’d been waiting for and hot pot rice arrived! It looked mouthwatering at first glance, with that glossy, glistening seasoning making its entrance.

Rather than an aggressively artificial kick, the jjukkumi here lets the seasoning’s deep savory flavor and the octopus’s natural taste shine through. The jjukkumi wasn’t tough at all—it was cooked beautifully tender and bouncy, and the texture was seriously amazing. Maybe it was the just-right level of heat and that special seasoning that clings to every bite, but I couldn’t stop reaching for it 👍

How to enjoy nurungji with pot rice

The real highlight here is the freshly cooked pot rice that comes with it. Open the lid and steam billows out, along with the wonderful nutty aroma of rice 🤍

Scoop the sticky rice neatly into a bowl, then pour water into the pot to make nurungji (scorched rice). Mix the spicy jjukkumi into the warm rice you scooped out, and honestly, it’s the ultimate rice thief!

After enjoying the spicy jjukkumi bibimbap, open the lid at the end and have the warm, well-steeped sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). It freshens up your mouth and feels like it relaxes your stomach all at once. It was such a satisfying way to finish a filling yet easy-on-the-stomach meal 😍

A completed jjukkumi and pot-rice meal

Just like the agu-jjim I had before, I was so pleased with this jjukkumi and pot-rice set at Jigueseo On Jjukkumi (지구에서 온 쭈꾸미) Hanam Main Branch. The harmony of the mildly spicy, sweet-and-savory seasoning and freshly cooked pot rice feels like something I could eat without ever getting tired of it. I recommend it to anyone looking for great jjukkumi in Hanam, Hanam pot rice, or a neat Korean set-meal-style restaurant in Hanam!
