You know that spicy, deep broth that sounds just right when the temperature swings wildly like it has lately, or when work stress gets to you? I heard the buzz and dashed right over, thinking I had to eat it immediately even if I came alone. This is Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch!
Coming from Wondang toward Wonheung, turn in by the Lee Cheol-woo Nurungji Samgyetang sign and you can easily reach the restaurant. It also looked like a great breakfast stop for anyone visiting IKEA, Starfield, or a golf course on Saturday or Sunday!
Exterior and spacious dedicated parking

I arrived at Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch! Its large, upscale exterior with traditional roof-tile details really stands out along Goyang-daero, so it was incredibly easy to find. There are outdoor tables near the entrance too, which looked perfect for having a cup of tea or taking a short break after eating.
There is a seriously spacious dedicated parking lot right beside and in front of the restaurant, so even beginner drivers can visit with absolutely no parking worries.
From solo seats to group tables and a self-service bar

Inside the restaurant! There are seats for solo diners as well as group tables, so it looked great whether you come by yourself or eat with the people you came golfing with. Disposable aprons were provided too!

As I looked around, I spotted a hinoki assorted set on the menu! It comes with sundae-gukbap (sausage soup with rice) and hinoki steam. For someone like me who loves both hinoki steam and gukbap, it was the ultimate menu item! The hinoki steam includes sundae and bossam (boiled pork wraps).

There was a separate self-service bar too! It was arranged so you could comfortably help yourself to banchan (side dishes) such as water kimchi, kimchi, kkakdugi radish kimchi, onions, and somyeon noodles. Small plates, tongs, and scissors were ready as well, making everything easy to eat.
Hinoki-steamed set menu and receipt review event

The set menus pair hinoki steam with either sundae-gukbap or suyuk-gukbap (boiled-pork soup with rice), and choosing the spicy version costs an extra ₩1,000. Individual dishes included offal gukbap, dried pollock hangover soup, and soybean-pulp sundae soup. The dried pollock hangover soup or spicy sundae soup looked absolutely perfect for recovering the day after drinking!
Side dishes included seasoned raw pollock pancake, galbi mandu, and buckwheat pancakes, while larger dishes included squid sundae and assorted sundae. They also had makgeolli, soju, beer, and soda—including zero-sugar soda. Extra bowls of rice were free too!
They were also running a receipt review event! Join easily through the QR code and you get four galbi mandu for free. Definitely take part and try the dumplings! There were so many menu choices, and the other diners were enjoying everything so much that choosing was difficult, but we ordered the hinoki steam + suyuk-gukbap set.
How to season your gukbap and the side dishes

At Gohyangok Wondang Branch, the condiments included extra-spicy seasoning, regular seasoning, salted shrimp, and perilla seed powder.
Getting the seasoning right for sundae-gukbap matters! Every restaurant has different salts and different-tasting seasoning pastes, so it is not always easy to get the balance right, but they kindly displayed their best recipe.
Add 2 heaping spoonfuls of seasoning paste, 1 heaping spoonful of salted shrimp, and 1 spoonful of extra-spicy seasoning (or more than 1 spoonful to taste)!
You can add perilla seed powder to suit your taste as well!

The side dishes were set out one by one! There were kimchi and kkakdugi, water kimchi, chili peppers and onions with ssamjang, dried shredded radish, and somyeon noodles. The crunchy dried radish, kimchi, and kkakdugi seemed like such a good match for the gukbap! Since I was having something spicy, the well-seasoned water kimchi also seemed like it would go so well with it.
You could bring more side dishes from the self-service bar, so you could eat without feeling pressured, and somyeon noodles were available there too!
Spicy suyuk-gukbap and piping-hot hinoki steam

The spicy suyuk-gukbap and hinoki steam arrived! The chives, the suyuk-gukbap, and the bean sprouts, sundae, and boiled pork in the hinoki steam were all so beautifully colorful that I simply had to take photos.

The meat in the suyuk-gukbap was large and tender, making it so easy to eat! And the broth was truly the star. The rich meat broth had a deeply flavorful seasoning paste, and it was so delicious! I thought I might come for a hangover cure and end up drinking even more, haha.

The hinoki steam came out freshly made and piping hot! The sundae was not ordinary glutinous-rice sundae but Abai sundae, and it was so delicious wrapped with bean sprouts. The boiled pork was wonderfully tender and went so well with ssamjang too!
These days, even a bowl of gukbap often costs in the mid-₩10,000 range, so eating out can feel quite burdensome. A bowl of spicy suyuk-gukbap before lunch or before heading to the golf course on the weekend would be so filling and satisfying!
What I liked about the visit
- The spacious dedicated parking right in front of the restaurant made it very convenient to drive here, and the clean, high-ceilinged space was well arranged with everything from solo seats to group tables.
- The gukbap packed with large, tender pieces of meat and the hinoki-steamed set with tender boiled pork, Abai sundae, and bean sprouts were excellent for both flavor and value.
- Crunchy kimchi, water kimchi, somyeon noodles, and bowls of rice were all free to refill, so I could enjoy a full, hearty meal right to the end.
- Seasoning gukbap can be surprisingly tricky, but the displayed recipe made it easy to enjoy the ideal balance; getting four galbi mandu through the QR receipt review was a lovely bonus.
With its deep, rich broth, generous hinoki-steamed set, and free self-service bar, Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch is highly recommended for anyone wanting an easy, hearty breakfast or lunch before a weekend golf round. The parking is spacious, and it opens from early weekend mornings too! 👍👍
