Goyang Chinese restaurant spicy level 3 jjamppong: Jjamppong Jijeon

In short

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is a Chinese restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi, serving jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) with selectable heat levels. My husband and I had jjamppong, jjamppong dumplings, and tangsuyuk for lunch, and level 3 was spicy but deliciously manageable. Verdict: a satisfying choice when you want spicy jjamppong with crispy tangsuyuk.

Lately, I’ve been craving spicy, warming food nonstop. When you’re raising a child, there are many days when you eat out with the child’s meals in mind, but every now and then I really want something spicy. So today, my husband and I went to Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch, a well-known Goyang restaurant, for a spicy jjamppong lunch.

Was parking easy?

At Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch, you can park right in front of the restaurant, so we could go in without any parking stress. There were quite a few spaces around the front, making it easy to park and head straight inside.

We ordered jjamppong, jjamppong dumplings, and tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork). My husband chose level 2 and I chose level 3, though they did not look very different in color. I usually enjoy spicy food, and level 3 definitely felt spicy, but it was just the right kind of spicy that I could enjoy. If you like spicy food, I think level 3 will be perfectly doable.

I liked being able to choose the heat level. Even with the same dish, if someone who cannot handle spice and someone who loves it visit together, everyone can order to suit their own taste, which is so nice.

I was glad we ordered tangsuyuk with the jjamppong. After enjoying the hot, spicy jjamppong, the tangsuyuk was crispy and delightfully chewy, and the combination was so good that I kept eating even when I was full. I was curious about the jjamppong dumplings too, and they were delicious—crispy with a slight kick.

When I visit a delicious place, I naturally look to see whether I can bring my child too. I came without Ttoini this time, but I thought I would like to come back with Ttoini. The restaurant had high chairs well prepared. There was also a varied menu, so I thought we should return with Ttoini later.

A spacious dining room and self bar

The restaurant felt spacious and clean. The tables were also set a comfortable distance apart throughout, so it did not feel cramped.

There was a self bar on one side of the restaurant, which was convenient because we could take as much of the basic sides, including onions and danmuji (pickled yellow radish), as we needed. We could also help ourselves to rice there, and it was delicious with the spicy jjamppong broth.

What I personally loved was that hair ties were available by the self bar too. When you have long hair and forget a hair tie, you know how your hair can keep bothering you. It is also more comfortable to tie it up when you are eating something soupy.

It may seem like a small thing, but seeing that they had even prepared hair ties made that little consideration feel so thoughtful.

Why I want to return with my child

Overall, I was quite satisfied with this meal. Above all, since I like spicy food, level 3 jjamppong was exactly right for my taste. It was nicely spicy and warming, and I think I would order level 3 again without hesitation on my next visit.

Not only the jjamppong, but also the jjamppong dumplings and tangsuyuk were tasty and went well together. Parking directly in front made it easy to visit by car, and the staff were kind, so nothing felt uncomfortable during our meal. It was also convenient that the self bar let us take as much onion, danmuji, and other sides as we needed.

Since becoming a parent, I think my standards for choosing restaurants have changed a little. I used to look only at whether the food was good, but now I naturally check whether parking is easy, whether there are high chairs, and whether the restaurant is too narrow. I came without Ttoini this time, but the high chairs were well provided, the restaurant was clean, and the food was delicious, so I thought we should visit with Ttoini next time.
