Booking ahead at a Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil restaurant: Midam Kitchen

If you're traveling in Gyeongju and walking along Hwangnidang-gil, there are times when the adults' cravings and the kids' cravings just don't match up. That's when pizza, spicy pasta, and crispy pork cutlet come to the rescue — dishes everyone loves. So I visited a newly opened restaurant on Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil.

Both my husband and my first-grader loved every bite, so let me introduce it. Come along!

Where Midam Kitchen is and when it opens

Midam Kitchen is a Western restaurant on Hwangnidang-gil at 33 Cheomseong-ro 49beon-gil, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk. It's open Thursday to Tuesday, 10:30–21:00, with last order at 20:30, and closed every Wednesday.

Gyeongju in September was in full bloom everywhere we looked — such pretty scenery no matter where we went. Near Gyeongju World in the Bomun district, the cosmos flowers were in full bloom too!

Midam Kitchen, this Hwangnidang-gil restaurant find, sits at the entrance of a quiet alley lined with hanok pensions.

Where to park near Midam Kitchen

We always use Hwangnam Public Parking Lot when we come here, then walk over.

A hanok exterior with a modern dining room

The exterior of Midam Kitchen, with its handsome tiled-roof hanok and green lawn, had such a quiet, serene vibe — so pretty. Walking up the stone steps, you arrive at Midam Kitchen 💕

If the exterior showed off the traditional beauty of a serene hanok, stepping inside revealed a much more modern, contemporary interior that caught my eye.

Not flashy, but a nicely balanced mix of white and wood, with plant décor adding freshness in between — a modern-sensibility interior.

There's a private room with a big window looking out onto the green lawn, great for a family meal or a group gathering.

Further inside, there's a warm, cozy space too. The two-seat tables are arranged with real atmosphere — perfect for a date on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju!

The main hall is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling and large windows on every side, so it feels open and the warm sunlight streaming in gives it such lovely lighting.

The place was fully booked today for a group gathering, but luckily we'd reserved ahead 🤭

What is on the Midam Kitchen menu?

• Salads: ricotta, chicken, beef
• Pizzas: arugula tomato, quattro cheese, kkokkiyo (chicken), pepperoni
• Pastas: cream chicken rigatoni, Toowoomba, basil cream, basil oil, beef brisket oil
• Risotto: beef, basil shrimp
• Cutlets: pork loin, kkanpung (spicy Chinese-style sauce), cheese roll cutlet

How was the pork loin cutlet?

I was touched by how the owner looked after my youngest at Midam Kitchen.

At a reasonable price in the ₩10,000s, the portion was generous, and the quality was good enough to surprise even my husband when he tasted it.

The giant pork cutlet was fried crispy, the meat thin but tender, and the sauce was so good.

Easy to cut up for a kid to eat, and not greasy at all — my husband really enjoyed it too.

Quattro cheese pizza at Midam Kitchen

The second dish at this Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil restaurant find was the quattro cheese pizza. Same story here — generous portions at a reasonable ₩10,000s price, and the cheese quality was amazing 👍

My youngest ate it up happily.

Toowoomba pasta at Midam Kitchen

Third was the Toowoomba pasta. Topped with big shrimp, the spiciness was especially good — it cut the richness and doubled the creaminess of the sauce.

The pasta was cooked just right, something everyone can agree on.

And the shrimp weren't just plain shrimp — they'd been scored to be plated with real care 🤭

Piling the Toowoomba pasta on top of the pizza works too, and tastes great.

If you're visiting Gyeongju, I recommend Midam Kitchen, a Hwangnidang-gil restaurant that satisfies kids and adults alike at reasonable prices. The pizza, pasta, and cutlet were all delicious 👏
