Hello, this is thrifty Tingting.
Picking a family restaurant that pleases everyone from grandparents to little kids isn't easy. Today I'm writing up Boriook Main Branch near Mangpo Station, a genuine favorite where the savory barley rice and endless all-you-can-eat buffet side dishes had my whole family thoroughly satisfied.
This is actually a regular spot for me whenever I crave healthy home-style food. Let's start with how convenient the parking is, then the cozy store atmosphere, and the variety of menu options!
Where is Boriook Main Branch and when is it open?

Parking and the outdoor terrace at Boriook Main Branch, near Mangpo Station
Boriook Main Branch sits near Mangpo Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit — but best of all, there's a really spacious dedicated parking lot right in front of the store, so there's zero parking stress when visiting by car with family.
After the meal, there's also a nicely atmospheric outdoor terrace where you can catch a cool breeze and let your food settle — a great setup for bringing along elderly parents or kids.

Walking inside, you're greeted by high ceilings and a neatly arranged, spacious hall. The tables are well spaced, and there are plenty of private seats divided by partitions, making it a comfortable spot for large family gatherings or work dinners too.
What we ordered: the barley rice set and the mackerel set

Ordering is simple through the smart tablet (T-order) installed at each table. From the main barley rice set to the mackerel set and stir-fried pork that go nicely alongside, menus are shown with clear photos, so even grandparents can easily pick what they want. We ordered the barley rice set together with a nicely golden-grilled mackerel.

What's on the side dish self-serve bar at Boriook Main Branch?
Once you order a main dish, you can freely help yourself to every side dish here. There's such a variety that just making one lap around takes a while. From savory sungnyung (scorched rice tea) to soothe your stomach before the meal, to glossy japchae (which I love), assorted fritters, and braised tofu — it was packed with all my favorites.

There was a generous, appetizing spread of fresh, varied namul (seasoned vegetables) that pair perfectly with barley rice — bracken fern, chamnamul (aster greens), spicy radish salad, bean sprouts, chwinamul (aster scaber) — plus fresh geotjeori (unfermented cabbage kimchi) and cool yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi). The sheer abundance was really something.
Every single side dish had that mild, not-too-salty flavor with real depth, so it genuinely felt like eating a healthy home-cooked meal haha. I think kids who don't usually eat vegetables would have fun picking and choosing here too haha.

How the grilled mackerel and the house stew tasted
The crispy-outside, tender-inside grilled mackerel arrived sizzling, with moist, smell-free flesh that was truly the perfect rice thief haha.

The stew that comes as a default side had an impressively thick broth, great for mixing into barley rice haha. Then I tried a bit of each side dish and built my own bibimbap haha.

Building your own barley bibimbap
Piling generous heaps of colorful namul over fluffy barley rice, then mixing in the gochujang (red chili paste) and sesame oil on the table — the crunch of the namul, the nutty sesame oil, and the pop of the barley rice grains made a combination that's really hard to recreate at home haha. It's part of why I keep coming back haha.

At home, managing each individual side dish is such a hassle, but at Boriook Main Branch — a real Mangpo Station favorite buffet — I get to mix all these healthy namul together at once, and that was so satisfying. Every time I come here, I end up eating at least two bowls!

Dessert corner: barley gangjeong, rice puffs and coffee
After stuffing yourself, there's a dessert corner offering barley gangjeong (crispy candied barley snack), rice puffs, and coffee.

With barley gangjeong, rice puffs, and coffee or a cold drink all ready to go, sitting on the outdoor terrace chatting with family really rounds out a perfect meal! I highly recommend Boriook Main Branch, a Suwon Korean set-meal favorite where you can enjoy quality dishes and namul all at once!
