Geoje gukbap restaurant Bongga Gukbap: mixed gukbap and small suyuk
In short
Bongga Gukbap is a gukbap (rice and soup) and suyuk (boiled pork) restaurant near Jukrim Port in Geoje-myeon, Geoje. On a late-morning stop during a Geoje trip, the order was mixed gukbap for 9,000 won, Bongga beef gukbap for 10,000 won and small suyuk for 33,000 won, and the suyuk arrived with an earthenware pot of pork gukbap broth alongside. Clean broth with no gamey smell plus house-made kimchi and kkakdugi make Bongga Gukbap an easy recommendation for a hangover-cure meal.

Hi, this is Lyeobeulli haha! Today I'm showing you Bongga Gukbap, a gukbap (rice and soup) spot in Geoje that I stopped at for brunch during a trip around Geoje Island. Having a hearty bowl of gukbap really hit the spot haha. Let me show you what this Geoje gukbap favorite is all about!

Where is Bongga Gukbap, and is there parking near Jukrim Port?
Bongga Gukbap is located near Jukrim Port, so it's quieter than the downtown area, and there were about 5 parking spots in front of the store, so parking was easy! The address is 9 Giseong-ro, Geoje-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and it's open Monday to Saturday from 7:30am to 8pm, closed on Sundays.

Stepping inside, the place is spacious and clean! There were other customers on the other side so I only photographed this section, but there's plenty of room next door too. There's also group seating, so it looked great for company dinners, family meals or group gatherings — there were already lots of group customers by lunchtime.

Bongga Gukbap's menu and what we ordered
Here's the menu at Bongga Gukbap. They have a variety of gukbap, suyuk rice sets, suyuk, and sulguk (hangover soup) — so much good food lined up haha. We ordered mixed gukbap, Bongga beef gukbap, and small suyuk.

After ordering, I read the notes on the wall about the various health benefits of the ingredients, and I also spotted an origin-labeling board, so I took a photo of that too. These days I'm wary of restaurant kimchi because of the whole issue with Chinese-made kimchi, but here they make both the kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) in-house!

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Bongga Gukbap
Let me show you the side dishes at Bongga Gukbap! There's homemade kimchi and kkakdugi, onion, chili peppers, ssamjang (dipping paste), salted shrimp, chive salad, and a chive-and-onion salad to go with the suyuk.

For extra side dishes, you can use the self-serve bar! Oh, and there's a water dispenser too, so water is self-serve as well.

Since we ordered suyuk, they set up a gas burner for us too!

Small suyuk, 33,000 won — served with pork gukbap broth
The small suyuk (33,000 won) arrived mild and tender! The lean meat was soft and the fat had a nice springy texture haha.

When you order suyuk, they also give you broth in a stone pot — I thought it would just be plain broth, but it turned out to be actual pork gukbap!! We hadn't ordered a separate bowl for my kid, but the portion was just right for a kid's gukbap! It's also great for having a drink alongside the broth that comes with the suyuk.

The tender suyuk is delicious wrapped in lettuce, and it's also amazing paired with the tangy-sauced chive-onion salad~

Bongga beef gukbap, 10,000 won — the beef bowl
The Bongga beef gukbap (10,000 won), a beef version of gukbap, also arrived~ It's loaded with tender beef, bean sprouts and other toppings!

The rice comes separately, so you mix it in and eat it up — it's the kind of flavor that cures a hangover on its own haha. The spice level is just slightly kicked up, so it's easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed.

Mixed gukbap, 9,000 won — pork, sundae and intestines in one bowl
The mixed gukbap (9,000 won) comes with pork, sundae (blood sausage), and intestines all together! It arrives topped with a seasoning sauce that was slightly spicy~ I stirred the sauce in well and checked out the contents — it's really hearty~

I mixed a little rice in and topped it with kkakdugi and kimchi. Wow... first of all, the broth had no funky smell at all, which I loved, and it was packed evenly with meat, sundae and intestines! I'm a real gukbap lover, but I can't handle it when there's a strong smell — this was clean and delicious with no funk at all haha.
If you've had a big night of drinking on Geoje Island and need to cure a hangover, this is a really great place to go >.<

There's also a coffee vending machine for dessert afterward, in case that's helpful to know~
Is Bongga Gukbap in Geoje worth a stop?
If you're looking for a great gukbap restaurant in Geoje, I recommend Bongga Gukbap. I tried the mixed gukbap, beef gukbap, and suyuk, and all of it was truly delicious with no funky smell! Even the side dishes were tasty one by one, so I left having had a properly satisfying, filling meal haha. If you're searching for a great gukbap spot in Geoje, I highly recommend Bongga Gukbap!
