Buk-gu Busan Chinese restaurant for jajangbap dinner: Hongmigwan
In short
Hongmigwan is a Chinese restaurant near Gupo Market in Buk-gu, Busan. I had samseon jjamppong, jajangbap loaded with japchae, and mini tangsuyuk. Verdict: the jjamppong and japchae rice were an especially satisfying dinner combination.

Some days, you just really crave jajangmyeon or jjamppong, right?! I heard there was a great-value Chinese restaurant near Gupo Market in Busan, where a chef from a luxury hotel Chinese restaurant cooks, so I went to Hongmigwan (홍미관), a jjamppong spot near the market.

There were about four to five tables for four people, plus solo dining seats~~! I loved that there were counter seats too!!!!!!!!!!

What is on the menu at Hongmigwan?
Hongmigwan is a jjamppong specialist, and beyond samseon jjamppong and jjamppong gukbap (jjamppong soup with rice), it has white jjamppong, stir-fried jjamppong, oyster white jjamppong, Chinese wheat noodles, fried rice, japchae rice, paljin rice bowls, and fried egg with rice. There are also loads of dishes, including yangjangpi, palbochae, yusul, seafood scorched-rice soup, pepper japchae with flower buns, nanja wanseu, rajoyuk, dongpo pork, and fried dumplings, so take your time looking and choosing! They have soju, beer, Yantai kaoliang liquor, erguotou, and Yantai highballs, as well as soft drinks for anyone who does not drink.

Pickled radish and onions are available at the self-service bar. The pickled radish was thinly sliced. I absolutely love that.

Samseon jjamppong, jajangbap, and mini tangsuyuk
I ordered samseon jjamppong, jajangbap (black bean sauce rice), and mini tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour pork). The jajangbap came with jjamppong broth too, which was great—yay!
Noodles are the heart of jjamppong, and the moment I had a bite of Hongmigwan's samseon jjamppong, I immediately thought, wow, these noodles are seriously springy! Maybe because it is clearly a specialist compared with other jjamppong places, but it was the best :)

The seafood jjamppong had mussels, shrimp, onions, and many other ingredients, giving the broth even more depth. Every bit of seafood was fresh!!!!!!
I ordered the jajangbap because I wanted it, and it had a seriously generous amount of japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). That actually made it even better haha. The glass noodles were bouncy and chewy, with thin strips of green pepper mixed in. I normally never eat green pepper, but prepared like this, I did!

There is a waiting area, so you can sit and wait if there is a line :)

Mixing the jajang sauce with the rice let the seasoning soak nicely into every grain, making each bite delicious, and the plump shrimp scattered throughout made the texture even, even, even better~~~~~! ~~~~~~~~!
Japchae rice and jjamppong broth are a dream combination ✨ So tasty hahahahahaha

There were so many glass noodles that it was nice to slurp them up separately too. I usually only eat jajangmyeon, but it had been ages since I had jajangbap, and I was completely, totally satisfied,,,....

The mini tangsuyuk came with the sauce poured over it, but if you do not like that, I think you can let them know in advance!!! I coated it in loads and loads of sauce, then dipped it in soy sauce, and it was 2,637,483 times more delicious. I want it again 🤤🤤🤤
The sweet and savory jajangbap was perfect for a carb recharge for adults and kids alike, while I highly recommend the pleasantly spicy, refreshing broth and chewy noodles to anyone who loves jjamppong. Even the tangsuyuk was delicious and clean-tasting, with none of that meaty smell. Hongmigwan, a wonderful jjamppong restaurant near Gupo Market in Busan, delivered a satisfying dinner where sweet-salty, spicy, and crispy came together perfectly. Huge, huge, huge recommendation 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
