Anyang Korean restaurant for Andong soup sets: Hantiok

I visited Hantiok (한티옥), known as a great gukbap spot near Beomgye Station. It is in the B1 food court of Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, and it is known for its neat gukbap and guksu made with grade 1+ Korean beef. It was a great place for a hearty meal while shopping at the department store, or whenever you crave a steaming bowl of soup on a rainy or chilly day.

Getting to Hantiok Pyeongchon and parking

Hantiok is on B1 of Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, so it is really easy to find! Take Exit 4-1 at Beomgye Station and enter the department store by the Beomgye Smart Library. We drove there, and the amount of parking support varies according to your purchase total.

A hanok-inspired dining space

When you walk in, the lattice-patterned hanok (traditional Korean house) interior and wood-toned details create a traditional atmosphere. There were partitions at a comfortable distance between tables, so we could eat comfortably, and ordering by kiosk was convenient.

Andong guksu and Andong gukbap set menus

Hantiok specializes in Andong guksu (Andong-style noodle soup) and Andong gukbap (rice soup), dishes associated with the noble households of the Andong region. The menu had plenty of options, including Andong guksu, Andong gukbap, brisket gukbap, Korean beef ugeoji gukbap, Korean beef seolleongtang, gondre bibimbap, spicy pork ssambap, and handmade dumplings. There were also Hantiok set meals and bossam set meals for two or more people, making it easy to choose according to your group size. Set meals come with gukbap or guksu plus bossam and dumplings, so they were satisfyingly substantial. We chose the set menus, which felt like individual complete meals.

Andong guksu set ₩22,000 · Andong gukbap set ₩21,000

We ordered one each of the signature Andong guksu set (₩22,000) and Andong gukbap set (₩21,000). The side dishes differ depending on which set you order, so we got one of each because we wanted to try a little of everything. The Andong guksu set came with noodles, bossam (boiled pork slices), bossam kimchi, and one dumpling; the Andong gukbap set came with rice soup, spicy pork, wraps, and one dumpling.

Ordering the Andong guksu and Andong gukbap sets brought such a variety of side dishes that the table felt wonderfully full. Along with the Andong guksu and Andong gukbap, there was spicy pork, bossam, dumplings, and more.

The Andong guksu had a clean, deep broth that was not overpowering. You know how the best way to eat Andong guksu is to wrap the soft, generous noodles with savory seasoned perilla leaves, right? Eating them together was distinctive and delicious in a whole different way! The noodle portion was generous, too, so it was very filling!

The bossam and seasoned radish were tender and tasty, and the spicy pork was nicely savory, too. The dumpling was large and generously filled.

The Andong gukbap was more to my taste

Personally, I preferred the Andong gukbap. It had a pleasantly spicy kick and lots of ugeoji (dried outer cabbage leaves), which gave the broth a deep flavor. The beef topping was generous, too, though the Andong guksu had comparatively less meat, which was a small disappointment.

Being on B1 of Lotte Department Store makes it very accessible, and the Andong guksu and Andong gukbap each have their own appeal. Next time, I want to work my way through the other menu items, one by one.
