Deokcheon-dong bar in Busan for late-night snacks: Jansang

I heard that a stylish Korean-style bar on Deokcheon-dong’s Youth Street had reopened as Jansang (잔상), so I went straight there. A neat, pretty sign welcomed us 😚

Jansang, a Deokcheon bar, is a three-minute walk (290 m) from Exit 9 of Deokcheon Station. It’s on a street packed with bars, so it’s super easy to get to—and you’ve probably spotted it at least once while passing by 😖 Hehe.

Snacks and free ice cream before you go in

Before going in, we could take a quick look at the snacks. There were so many dishes that looked good as a meal or with drinks! And they offer soft serve for free!! This is normally something you have to pay for 🙄

Outdoor-bar-style seating and group reservations

Jansang’s biggest feature was its outdoor-bar-style interior and seating. Apparently, waaay back when (?) you could smoke there too, whoa—but these days, no smoking allowed 😋 I can only imagine how nice it would be to have a drink here while listening to the rain, hehe.

Further inside, there are another four 4-person tables and two 2-person tables. The tables were spaced suuuper far apart, so we could eat comfortably. Reservations are available for up to 20 people, so it seems perfect for a group get-together or work dinner!

My impatient friends went for the free soft serve before we had even ordered snacks, haha. (Guys, calm down a little..!) It was tasty though 🤭

What we picked for our second round

Jansang’s signature dishes are braised pork jowl in soy sauce, scarf soup, beef brisket and pork intestines hot pot, and chicken scorched-rice hot pot! But since we were here for a second round again today, haha 🫢 we chose slightly lighter dishes.

Ta-da! This is what we ordered!

• Mentaiko mayo stir-fried shrimp ₩16,000
• Beef-bone broth noodles ₩8,000
• Soju, 5 bottles ₩20,000
• Drinks, 2 cans ₩4,000
• Total ₩48,000

The basic snacks were dried radish strips, pickled onions, green onion kimchi, and twisted-doughnut crackers! We ordered our food before the basic snacks arrived, but when I saw the green onion kimchi ㅠㅠㅠ I was a little sad that we hadn’t ordered the beef brisket jjagechi. Next time, I’m definitely getting jjagechi...

How was the mentaiko mayo stir-fried shrimp?

I’ve been really into mentaiko lately, and shrimp always goes down well even when I’m full, so that’s why we ordered it. But that mentaiko mayo sauce was sooo good ㅠ The salty mentaiko and rich mayo went incredibly well with the springy-looking shrimp 😤

Look at that shrimp gloss.. The bouncy texture was totally there.

Shrimp can be a little plain, but the mentaiko mayo was the key point—it made the flavor so full, and it was just... just delicious...

Light and satisfying beef-bone broth noodles

We ordered the Udong beef-bone broth noodles because we wanted something brothy but light 👍 It tasted like Sari Gomtang ramyeon broth, with the rich meaty flavor of beef brisket added in, so it was perfect with drinks, hehe. Even though it was ramen, it had glass noodles in it too!

Guys..? Could you line it up properly, please? Heh ㅠ

One friend barely eats the actual snacks but loves crackers, so we got a big refill of crackers too, hehe.

Yakgwa ice cream from the review event

And my beloved review event was there too 😖 My pick was yakgwa (Korean honey cookie) ice cream! We’d already had lots of ice cream... but still... this felt different, hehe. Eating the granola underneath with the soft vanilla ice cream made me so happy ㅠ

I want to come back when it rains and really soak up the outdoor-bar vibe, and then I want to have jjagechi with the green onion kimchi too 😋 I recommend Jansang to anyone who wants a drink with that outdoor-bar vibe in Deokcheon, anyone who wants to make one dish their drinking snack, and anyone with a big group looking for a spacious place to drink.
