Snow beer and half a Peking duck at Suwon Chinese diner Gang's Duck

Gang's Duck, a Suwon City Hall favorite opened by chefs who came from hotel Chinese restaurants.

Both the food and the atmosphere were satisfying at this hot Chinese dining spot in Ingye-dong, Suwon.

What is the atmosphere like at Gang's Duck?

From the pojangmacha-style exterior to the interior design, Gang's Duck looked really stylish. It felt modern and hip, quite different from a traditional Chinese restaurant.

The atmosphere is so nice that there were even couples on blind dates there, haha.

Gang's Duck menu and Peking duck prices

The menu at this Suwon City Hall favorite has all kinds of Chinese dishes — rockfish hongyeon, mala cream shrimp, fish-fragrant eggplant, yurinki, and more. There are also budget-friendly lunch options like dongpo-yuk rice bowl, mapo tofu rice bowl, and dandan noodles, great for office workers nearby to drop by at lunchtime.

We ordered half a Peking duck and the mala cream shrimp. I remember being shocked at around ₩120,000 for a whole Peking duck on a family outing once, so Gang's Duck's ₩76,000 for a whole duck and ₩39,000 for half felt like an amazing deal.

Peking duck and dongpo-yuk take about 20 minutes to prepare, so I recommend reserving ahead — same-day reservations work too, and you can choose your menu when booking through Naver.

The drinks list at Gang's Duck, including Snow beer

Gang's Duck also has an impressive drinks lineup. I spotted Snow beer, which I used to drink in Shanghai, and ordered it right away.

It's my favorite beer, but not many restaurants carry it, which always bummed me out — so finding it here was so exciting!

Honey, please drive tonight — the salty peanuts that come as a default side were the perfect beer snack.

Half a Peking duck, just right for two

It was interesting to watch the Peking duck being carved right there in the dining hall at Gang's Duck.

The pancakes came in a steamer, so they stayed warm until the very end. Lots of places charge extra for pancakes, but Gang's Duck gives free refills of pancakes plus scallion and cucumber.

I love the duck skin the most, and it was grilled so crispy it was incredible.

They recommend dipping the duck skin in sugar, so I did — a subtle sweetness came through, which I loved. The meat wasn't dry at all either, just clean and light, haha.

The meat alone is delicious, but layering the moist Peking duck onto the thin wheat pancake with shredded scallion and cucumber, rolling it up, and dipping it in the pojangmacha-style sauce doubles the richness. Half a duck was just the right amount for two.

Cumin-dusted fried duck bones are the highlight

Ordering Peking duck also gets you duck bone fries! They're fried until crispy, then finished with a dusting of cumin powder — and that cumin was honestly the kicker. There's also a mala cumin fries version on the menu that I'm really curious about — I'll have to try it next time.

They're called bone fries but there's plenty of meat on them too, making for a great little delicacy. Perfect as a beer snack!

Mala cream shrimp, 19,000 won and the best dish of the night

Next up was the dish we enjoyed the most: mala cream shrimp. At ₩19,000, the price is reasonable too. They also have cereal shrimp and chili shrimp. I love both cream shrimp and mala dishes normally, so mala cream shrimp — just the name made my mouth water.

Big, plump shrimp combined with a smooth cream sauce plus a spicy mala kick.

Even my husband, who's not usually into mala, ate it happily and said it was really good. The mala flavor is present but not overpowering, so it's a crowd-pleaser without much room for dislike. The numbing mala heat comes through with zero heaviness, and the sharp spice is mellowed by the smooth cream — a textbook sweet-and-spicy balance.

You can enjoy hotel-chef-quality dishes and a stylish atmosphere without any pressure, so I'd recommend this as a Suwon City Hall favorite.

Gang's Duck parking and opening hours

Gang's Duck has its own restroom inside, and it was kept very clean — there's even mouthwash. One downside is there's no parking on-site, so we parked at the nearby Suwon City Hall public lot. It's free on Sundays and weekends, so keep that in mind.
