Jeju Nohyeong-dong dakdoritang with beef intestine: Deureomtong
In short
Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang is a pot-lid dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken) restaurant on Wonnohyeong-ro in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City. On a first visit, a Jeju local couple skipped the aged-kimchi version for two servings of the original pot-lid dakdoritang and added Korean beef large intestine and an egg roll, then waited out the 18-minute timer for a spicy broth packed with potato and rice cake. Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang is a solid choice in Jeju when you want a filling meal beyond black pork and seafood.

There's a place I think of whenever I'm in Jeju craving good dakdoritang (chicken stew) — Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang in Jeju. There's a parking lot but it only fits about 2-3 cars, so it's better to use the public parking lot nearby.

First-visit order: original dakdoritang with beef intestine and an egg roll
Since it was our first visit to Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang, we picked the basic pot-lid chicken stew instead of the aged-kimchi version, and added beef large intestine and egg rolls.
We went with the basic chicken stew plus a beef intestine add-on! I wanted to try the aged-kimchi version too, but my husband said you have to try the original on your first visit lol lol lol + so we just quietly added the intestine haha

Oh, and we added egg rolls too! The egg rolls are seriously delicious so you have to add them.. ⭐️

The banchan (side dishes) aren't numerous, but they're all the essential ones.

Inside Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang: mood and seating
We went at an awkward time between lunch hours, but there were still about 3 tables of other diners! The place was spacious and the gaps between seats were wide, which I liked.

Dakdoritang served in a cast-iron pot lid, with an 18-minute timer
After a bit of a wait, the chicken stew came out, and they told us to eat it once the 18-minute timer goes off. Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang has a funny name from the start, and the vibe is a bit different from chicken stew that comes in a regular pot. The chicken stew comes piled generously on a big pot lid, so the visuals alone get your appetite going 🔥

Why the egg roll is a must-add
I was so surprised at how delicious the egg rolls were. The inside was really packed with egg, soft, and the combination of ketchup and mayonnaise was surprisingly fresh and tasty. It was my first time having mayonnaise with egg rolls, and it was good!

How the broth and chicken tasted
Chicken stew is a dish that's fun to eat while it keeps bubbling away. Being able to keep it warm and simmering right on the table meant we could enjoy it hot right to the end, and it was nice how the broth got richer and richer as the chicken and other ingredients melded together. I think the broth is especially important for chicken stew, and this one was spicy with real depth of flavor, making it great to eat with rice 🥹❤️

The chicken was cooked to just the right texture to eat with the broth, and the spicy seasoning was well soaked into the meat, so my chopsticks kept going back for more. Above all, the portion was generous, which made me think this is a great dish to order when visiting with a group and eating your fill together.

Beef intestine, potato and rice cake add-ons
There was plenty of beef intestine, potato, and rice cake add-ons, which I liked, and I thought the rice cake could use a bit more seasoning soaked in~ but as we kept simmering it, by the end I was nodding along in approval 👍🏻 Potato is honestly one of my personal favorite ingredients when eating chicken stew! Eating potato that's soaked up the seasoning together with the broth is genuinely delicious. The soft-cooked potato with spicy seasoning soaked in has a completely different charm from the chicken. Put a piece of chicken on top of rice with a bit of broth spooned over, and it's filling enough to be a full meal without any other side dishes 😋

Why a Jeju local couple recommends Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang
Being a Jeju local, I go to the famous places tourists flock to as well, but I also find it pretty fun to hunt down restaurants like this one where you can eat a filling, hearty meal. Chicken stew itself is a dish that's good to share with several people, so it works well visiting with friends and is also a fine choice for a family meal out.
On a day in Jeju when you want something a bit different from black pork or seafood, this is a place worth visiting at least once if you're looking for good chicken stew in Jeju. With generous portions, spicy broth, and the fun of eating it hot off a simmering pot, it was a great fit whenever I wanted a hearty meal ❤️ If good chicken stew in Jeju comes to mind, I'd recommend giving Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang a visit 🍗🔥
