Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant lunch on the way to Dangjin: Suksudaega

Suksudaega is a hanok Korean set-meal (hanjeongsik) restaurant on Gangbyeon-ro in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. On the way to a one-night trip to Dangjin, the writer stopped at Suksudaega for lunch before check-in and ate a low-temperature braised king rib set and a Beopseongpo dried croaker (borigulbi) set in a private room. With the garden, private rooms, cauldron rice with nurungji (scorched rice) and dessert coffee, Suksudaega made a pleasant start to the trip.

Yeongjongdo bakery café at 7am: hazelnut latte, ice cream salt bread

5PM sunset hour is a neighborhood bakery café on the ground floor of an apartment complex in Yeongjong Haneul City, Incheon. Siheung Korean BBQ restaurant with leftover meat to go: Gyesu Garden

Gyesu Garden is a charcoal-grilled galbi (marinated short rib) restaurant in the Eungye district of Siheung, Gyeonggi. Past the lettuce-and-herb garden behind the parking lot, the 65,000 won signature set brings two servings of pork galbi, one serving of LA galbi, a whole-tomato ricotta cheese salad and café drinks, and the portions were big enough that the leftover meat went home in a takeout box. With Starfield City Bucheon a short drive away, Gyesu Garden works as a family meal you can turn into a full day out.

Goyang bakery café terrace with country bread and coffee: Pine Terrace

Pine Terrace is a large bakery café in Wondang, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. On a weekend afternoon, the signature coffee, country bread and a melon slice cake were eaten at a second-floor terrace table — the country bread arrived pre-sliced with nuts and dried fruit, and the signature coffee was lightly sweet, so it went well with dessert. With a wide parking lot and even a small animal farm, Pine Terrace is an easy place to slow down for an afternoon.

Ilsan seaweed soup restaurant that packs leftovers: Haenon Miyeok

Haenon Miyeok Ilsan Direct Branch is a seaweed soup set meal restaurant on Anigol-gil in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. The boneless flounder seaweed soup set and the scallop seaweed soup set are 19,000 won each, and because the pots are 1.5 times the size of a standard earthenware bowl, the half-finished soup went home in a takeout container for an extra 1,000 won. With a parking lot and a self-serve side dish bar, Haenon Miyeok is a place to come back to when a hot bowl of soup is what you need.
