Pangyo Station Pilates trial that found my tilted pelvis: Pom Pilates

In short

Pom Pilates is a director-led Pilates studio in Unit 504 of the Naksaeng Building on Seopangyo-ro, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, near Pangyo Station. The writer, trying Pilates for the first time, took a ₩55,000 one-on-one trial session, learned moves on Merrithew reformers, and was told several times that they drifted to one side in moves that should stay centered, which revealed a tilted pelvis for the first time. The Pom Pilates trial is an easy, comfortable start even for anyone hesitant because they have never done Pilates.

Total Pilates beginner at a Pom Pilates 1:1 trial: can I keep up?

I had never done Pilates before, and I booked a one-on-one trial at Pom Pilates near Pangyo Station. Despite my worries, I managed every move they taught me without much trouble. I was a complete first-timer, remember!

I sit a lot these days and spend long hours driving, so my lower back has been quietly stiff, and my pelvis has felt crooked. There was a bit of pain too. And honestly, if you've never done Pilates, you hesitate: "I have no body coordination, can I even follow along?" That was exactly me, putting it off. But I figured I should try it once, so I screwed up my courage, searched for Pangyo Station Pilates, and booked a 1:1 trial at Pom Pilates.

I thought I'd feel really awkward doing the moves as a beginner, but the atmosphere was so relaxed that I got through everything they showed me without difficulty. It felt great!

It isn't far from Pangyo Station, so access was decent. With parking in the building's basement, I had no trouble driving there. The moment you walk into the studio you get an open view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and I thought, there's no way you'd feel stuffy working out here. The changing room and personal lockers are well set up too, so changing and storing my things was easy.

How much is a Pom Pilates trial? Booking and first impressions

A single trial at Pom Pilates costs ₩55,000 and was held as a 1:1 class. The fact that the director teaches the classes personally was part of what drew me when booking.

Learning directly from an experienced director just feels different from learning from someone else, doesn't it?

How does a beginner 1:1 class go?

The 1:1 trial started with basic posture and stretching, then moved on to learning moves on a Canadian Merrithew reformer. Besides 1:1, 2:1 classes and 4:1 group classes are also available, I was told.

Since I was a total beginner, they walked me through basic posture and stretching step by step. On the Merrithew reformer, I lay down and stretched my legs straight up toward the ceiling, with my arms out to the sides for balance and my core firmly engaged, that was the key point. Perhaps because they didn't want me to feel awkward as a beginner, the instructor kept explaining things simply and adjusted my posture one move at a time.

It's based on STOTT Pilates, maybe that's why, but each move was surprisingly detailed, which caught me off guard. I'd worried I wouldn't be able to keep up as a first-timer, but that was really unnecessary. The instructor taught slowly at my level, so I learned comfortably. I did a 1:1 class, but there are also 2:1 classes and 4:1 group classes.

Can a trial class reveal a tilted pelvis?

In moves where I had to line up exactly in the center, I got feedback several times that I kept drifting to one side, and that's when I learned my pelvis was quite tilted. My own pelvis, for real.

But here's what really surprised me. I never knew, yet my pelvis was quite crooked. I found it remarkable that, even among Pangyo Pilates studios, there's one that checks your posture so carefully, in the spirit of rehab and pain-relief Pilates. I got a strong feeling that regular sessions would definitely correct it.

How my body felt the day after the Pilates trial

The day after the Pom Pilates trial, my abs and sides felt sore. I guess that means even muscles I don't normally use got worked evenly. The core is a given, but it felt like it woke up muscles I didn't know were hiding.

If you're looking into Pilates in Pangyo, I recommend taking a 1:1 trial at Pom Pilates. Especially if you've felt your posture is off, and even more so if you're a complete beginner hesitating like me. It's much easier than you'd expect. Not many Pangyo Pilates studios have a director-led system, so that's worth comparing too.

Just do these 3 things today

  • ① Look up the Pilates studio's location near Pangyo Station and whether parking is available
  • ② Inquire about booking a 1:1 trial
  • ③ If you're nervous about being a beginner, tell the instructor exactly that when you start
