Dongtan shabu kalguksu set for two, ₩20,000 without meat: Deungchon
In short
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu kalguksu (hot pot noodle) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Green Zone in the Gran Passage CGV building in Dongtan, Hwaseong. A married couple ordered the spicy shabu kalguksu set for two and found the lineup had changed: the set is now ₩20,000 with no meat, down from ₩30,000 with beef, so they added shabu beef for ₩10,000 and ate through minari, bean noodles, dumplings, kalguksu noodles and fried rice. Splitting the price this way makes Deungchon a fair pick for vegetable-first eaters, while beef lovers pay ₩30,000 as before.

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch
I have to get my shabu-shabu fix regularly!! There are so many shabu-shabu places these days and I've been to a lot of them, but Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is still hands down the best. Today I went back to my go-to Dongtan shabu-shabu spot, Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu.

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is on the 2nd floor of the Green Zone in Gran Passage — it's in the building with the CGV, so just head for the CGV building and you'll find it easily.

The interior was clean and comfortable. Friends, groups, couples, even elderly diners — such a wide range of ages were eating there. It really is a dish that anyone, of any age, can enjoy comfortably.

Geotjeori side dish and the spicy shabu kalguksu broth
At Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu the only basic side dish is geotjeori (fresh kimchi salad), but it's a work of art haha 👍 It goes so well with the shabu-shabu and kalguksu and tastes so good that a refill is basically mandatory ^^

Not long after ordering, the spicy shabu kalguksu came out fast! Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu's broth is already famous, isn't it — no need to say more.

The spicy broth was piled high with minari (water dropwort), which gave it a great aroma too, and one sip of the soup was like — ah, this is exactly the taste!!! 🥹 The words just came out on their own.

Why does the ₩20,000 set for two come with no meat?
Not long after ordering the set for two, they brought out the kalguksu noodles and fried rice included in the set.

But wait... something felt off? I'd definitely ordered the shabu-shabu set, but there was no meat? I checked the kiosk again and it turned out the beef used to be included in the set, but now it's switched to an option where you add the meat separately.
- ✅️ Old set for two: ₩30,000 with meat included
- ✅️ New set for two: ₩20,000 without meat

These days there are a lot of people who eat mostly vegetarian without meat, so I thought having meat as an optional add-on wasn't a bad idea after all.

While waiting for the meat I'd ordered as an add-on, I went ahead and put in the bean noodles (bunmoja) and dumplings I'd already ordered! Fueled by pure determination to eat fast 😎

Adding shabu beef for ₩10,000: beef and minari together
The shabu beef add-on was ₩10,000, and it was plenty for two adults — the meat looked clean and good quality too.
We dipped the shabu beef into the bubbling broth to cook — I like my meat cooked through, but my husband pulls his out the second it touches the broth, apparently that keeps it more tender or something 🙄 Even how we eat is different between us haha.

Pick up the meat and minari together, dip it in soy sauce — the meat is so tender and the minari aroma adds to it, so good ㅠㅠ The shabu-shabu meat + minari combo is the best!

Bean noodles and dumpling add-ons at Deungchon
We ate the bean noodles (bunmoja) first since they'd been simmering — the chewy, bouncy texture is really appealing. And the dumplings, so good! I almost ordered more on top of the 2 that come as a free extra. But honestly, above all, Deungchon's spicy broth — I get why everyone tries so hard to copy it on Instagram.

Finishing the pot: kalguksu noodles, then fried rice
After thoroughly finishing off the meat, next comes the kalguksu noodles. Boil them and slurp them up with kimchi — game over!!! The charm of shabu-shabu is being able to enjoy several dishes from one meal!!! There's fun in eating it step by step, so you never get tired of it and can enjoy it deliciously all the way through haha.

For the fried rice, a staff member comes over to make it right around when you're finishing the kalguksu. My stomach was already full, but you have to eat the fried rice too haha. The crispy nurungji-like (crispy scorched rice) bits are the charm. Dipping it lightly in the leftover broth we'd set aside finished it off perfectly ✨️ I was full but still ate it all up!

There's a takeout event where you can get shabu beef cheaply to go, so I'll have to try that sometime.
Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu, the place I need my regular fix of. From the spicy broth to shabu beef, kalguksu noodles and fried rice, it's a filling, satisfying meal. Even after not visiting for a while, it was just as delicious as ever — I recommend this Dongtan favorite, Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu 👍
