Bangi-dong gamjatang restaurant: ₩32,000 small pot and beer, Boseung

In short

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a sundaeguk (pork and blood sausage soup) and gamjatang (pork bone stew) restaurant open 24 hours year-round near the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. On a weekend lunch visit, a small gamjatang for ₩32,000 and a beer for ₩6,000 came with meat that slid off the bone, wide flat glass noodles that never broke apart, and garlicky napa cabbage kimchi. With free parking right outside and partitioned booths, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch works equally well as a hangover cure or a late second round.

I heard there was a really clean and delicious sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) and gamjatang spot near the Bangi-dong food alley in Jamsil, so I went and checked it out — this is Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch (보승회관 방이점) :))

Where Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is and where to park

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is at 101 Ogeum-ro, 1F, Songpa-gu, Seoul, near the Bangi-dong food alley in Jamsil, and there's free parking right out front. Walking in is fine too, but the free parking really makes it easy to swing by for hangover soup after a heavy drinking night — if I'd known there was parking, I definitely would've brought the car!!

This is Boseung, a sundaeguk specialist and Bangi-dong favorite for gukbap (rice soup) and every drinking snack you could want!! They've got everything but the kitchen sink for anju (drinking food), so let's head in ~.~

Weekend lunch atmosphere and the partitioned booths

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a huge place and every seat is partitioned, so we could eat in a semi-private setup. There were especially many solo diners at weekend lunch.

Interior of the restaurant busy with weekend lunch customers

I guess it's a weekend lunch thing — there were really so many solo diners haha. Why does it seem to me like every single one of them is here for a hangover? (Well, birds of a feather and all that,,)

Large dining hall divided into partitioned seats

The place was huge and every seat had partitions, so we got to enjoy our meal semi-privately

Table seating at the 24-hour gukbap restaurant

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch, this Bangi-dong gukbap favorite, is open 24 hours a day, year-round, so honestly it's a great spot for a second or third round of drinks at night too!! Definitely bookmarking this for the next Bangi-dong after-party spot ㅎ.ㅎ

Side dishes: napa cabbage kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi)

Napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi side dishes

Napa cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi came out, and between the two I really enjoyed the napa cabbage kimchi — it had a good amount of garlic in it, so it paired really well with the gamjatang 🫠

What's in the pot: siraegi greens, rice cakes and wide flat noodles

The small gamjatang at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch came generously loaded with potatoes, siraegi (dried radish greens), glass noodles, rice cakes, and perilla leaves. What stood out was that the noodles weren't thin — they were wide, flat noodles.

Potatoes, the eternal partner of gamjatang!! And siraegi, noodles, rice cake, perilla leaves and more were all packed in generously, and what stood out was that the noodles were wide and flat instead of thin

Clinking beer glasses next to the gamjatang

Cheers ❤️ I don't usually drink beer much, but in summer I always start with beer,,!! Because summer is the season that pairs best with beer, hehe

Pork that slides right off the bone

A large chunk of pork bone from the gamjatang

One chunk was really huge, and it was cooked so well I could barely believe it — the meat just slid right off the bone

Meat pulled off the bone from the gamjatang

Maybe that's why it was so easy to eat without much effort!! The noodles and rice cakes that had soaked up all that gamjatang broth were seriously so good

Gamjatang meat dipped in mustard sauce

It was a mustard sauce, but it wasn't sharply spicy, so it was delicious even with a generous dip

Wide flat noodles soaked in broth

The plump wide flat noodles were seriously delicious!! Since the noodles weren't thin, they never broke apart even after being boiled for a while

Close-up of the rich gamjatang broth

It's a sundaeguk specialist in Bangi-dong, but since they make the gamjatang broth in-house too, it held its own against any dedicated gamjatang restaurant!!

Enoki mushrooms placed on top of the gamjatang

The enoki mushrooms nearly got left out haha

And finally, the true star of gamjatang — the potatoes were boiled until so soft, and the ultimate move is to mash them into the broth at the end and scoop up a big spoonful

Is the small gamjatang enough for two people?

The ₩32,000 small gamjatang at Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch had just the right amount of meat for two, and if you want more you can add fried rice. Since I don't eat a huge amount, the two of us ended up completely stuffed. If you're looking for gamjatang in Bangi-dong with a mildly spicy but deep, rich broth, I highly recommend this place!!
