Bone soup in Ingye-dong, Suwon: no gamy smell despite morning sickness

In short

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a 24-hour pork bone soup restaurant on the first floor of Drama City in Ingye-dong, Suwon. On the way back from a hospital visit in Ingye-dong, the writer ate alone and ordered the special ugeoji (cabbage leaf) pork bone soup at regular spice with steamed dumplings; even with morning sickness and a strong sensitivity to gamy smells, the soup had no off-odor and the meat came off the bone tenderly. With parking and a choice of spice levels, Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a solo Korean meal spot in Ingye-dong worth recommending.

Looking for a solo meal spot in Ingye-dong with parking

My pick for a solo meal in Ingye-dong was Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch (얼큰한뼈해장국 수원인계점). I recently got injured and have been going to a hospital in Ingye-dong, so I was hunting for somewhere nearby with parking where I could eat alone. I ended up at this branch, famous as a Cheonan local favorite and for its spicy bone soup with selectable spice levels.

You know those days, right? When you just want to eat out before heading home! Today was exactly that day, haha. A must-read if you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Ingye-dong for solo dining!

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch: location, hours and parking

Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is at 52 Gyeongsu-daero 466beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, Drama City units 104 and 105, and it's open 24 hours. The exceptions: on Tuesday it runs until 9 a.m., and on Wednesday it opens at 10 a.m.

For parking, there are 3 spots outside the first-floor restaurant, plus the building's basement levels 1–3 fit about 60 cars. In Ingye-dong, where parking is a pain, that's really great!

I'd never seen bone soup with spice levels before, so I was excited. And it's a bone dish I couldn't have fully enjoyed if I'd been with my child, so I was even more thrilled, haha.

Is Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch good for group gatherings too?

Being open 24 hours, you can drop by any time and cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and even a hangover cure, which I liked. They cover a whole 2 hours of parking, and there are group rooms, so it'd be perfect for company dinners or get-togethers.

The tables are spaced widely and there are lots of seats. The open doorways on the left are the group rooms. They have partitions, so you can use them to fit your party size, which looks cozy. They also have high chairs for kids.

The counter has Wi-Fi, dental floss, candy, Febreze and even a coffee vending machine. There's nothing they don't have, and you can feel the owner's thoughtfulness, haha.

Solo order: special ugeoji bone soup at regular spice and steamed dumplings

Here's the menu. It's a bone soup specialist, so my expectations were up, haha. There's a restroom inside the building, which was convenient, and aprons are provided too.

I can't usually eat gamjatang (pork bone stew) alone, so I tend to go for bone soup, but I'd often wish I could add more bones or ugeoji (dried cabbage greens) and couldn't. Here there's a special ugeoji bone soup, so I could eat plenty, which I loved! You can also pick the spice level, and since I'm a total spice wimp, I ordered regular, which is about Shin Ramyun level, plus steamed dumplings and a Coca-Cola Zero.

At the time of my visit, a Naver review event gave a free soft drink or coffee at a low price, so keep that in mind.

Table ordering and the staff call menu, even for "please reheat it"

Every table has a table-order screen, which made ordering easy, and I noticed the staff call menu lets you choose in detail things like extra broth, reheating and all kinds of tableware.

When you're drinking, a bowl of hangover soup tends to go cold, but they'll reheat it. Because you can pick exactly what you want from the call menu, you don't need to flag down staff, it's conveyed more accurately than saying it out loud, and without the back-and-forth of calling someone over, I figured responses would be faster too.

Side dishes: kkakdugi and pickled onions, refills self-serve

They bring water and side dishes, and if you run out you can get more yourself. The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) was nicely fermented and great alongside the soup, and the pickled onions were crunchy and good for cleansing the palate.

Portion and taste of the special ugeoji bone soup: fine even with morning sickness?

Everything I ordered arrived!

See how it's packed with ingredients? I ordered the special ugeoji bone soup, and it came in an earthenware pot that's huge even next to my fist, loaded with bones, ugeoji and scallions. The spicy, rich broth spread a deep savoriness through my mouth and made me want rice. A rice thief!

Who could resist this bubbling-hot look, haha? Eating while sweating buckets is exactly what fighting heat with heat is about!

I have a bit of morning sickness, so I'm sensitive to gamy smells, but even to my palate there was no off-smell, and the meat came off the bone softly and easily, which I liked.
