Today I'm introducing 'Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch.'

I spent a while deciding where to go, and while looking for somewhere with solid drinking food and a relaxed vibe, I naturally ended up heading toward Guwol-dong's Rodeo Street. There are so many places in Guwol-dong that it's actually harder to pick, but this time I went with a spot that came highly recommended by people around me.

Today's spot is a Guwol-dong pub famous for its full retro vibe, Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch 😊 To cut to the chase — I went for a drink and left having had a proper filling meal too, so my satisfaction was really high!

Where is Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch, and what are its hours?

Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch is located on the 1st floor of 63 Inha-ro 507beon-gil, Namdong-gu, Incheon, near Rodeo Street's 2nd Plaza. Hours are Mon–Thu and Sun 17:00–04:10, Friday 17:00–05:10, and Saturday 16:00–05:10.

It's a quick walk from Yesulhoegwan Station, so access is really good, and with so many places nearby, it's also convenient for moving on to a second round. The sign stands out along Rodeo Street, so even first-timers should find it easily. If you're looking for a Guwol-dong Rodeo pub, you've probably walked past this spot before.

Inside Daedongjip: retro tavern mood, and is it good for group dinners?

Inside, Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch has a strong retro interior that really feels like an old-school daepotjip (traditional drinking house). The space is on the larger side, so it's perfect for group dinners, gatherings, or dates.

The traditional atmosphere is paired with a clean touch, so it was comfortable even sitting for a long time. It was a weekday evening, but the tables were nearly full, and I immediately understood why it's known as a go-to Guwol-dong pub.

Daedongjip's menu and what we ordered

Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch's menu ranges from bossam, yukhoe (raw beef), mung bean seafood pancake, potato pancake, and beef pancake, to soupy dishes like spicy braised chicken feet in broth, boneless jjimdak, Busan fish cake soup, and budae jjigae, plus anchovy noodle soup and bibim guksu. It's mostly Korean-style drinking food, so it should suit anyone looking for Korean food in Guwol-dong too.

After much deliberation, we ended up ordering the signature dish, bossam, in the medium size. Eating it as just a side dish for drinks felt like it wouldn't be enough, so we added two bowls of rice — and in the end, that combination turned out to be excellent.

How did the medium bossam taste?

The bossam (medium) at Daedongjip Incheon Guwol Branch looked quite generous even just visually. The meat came piled on thick, plated together with kimchi and vegetables, making the table feel completely full.

I tried a piece of the meat first, and it was boiled cleanly with no gamy smell, coming out tender. The ratio of fat to lean meat was just right too, so it wasn't greasy, and it stayed moist enough that I kept reaching for more. Boiled pork often turns dry once it cools, but here it stayed soft right down to the last piece.

Wrapping the meat with the kimchi that came alongside was genuinely delicious. The kimchi wasn't too sour or spicy, just ripened enough to cut right through the pork's fattiness. Adding the rice on top turned it from a drinking side dish into a proper meal. For two people, a medium bossam with two bowls of rice was exactly the right amount, and finishing the rice too left us really full 😋

The complimentary side dishes came out generously too, so it was nice to have a light drink before the main dish arrived. Even when we asked mid-meal for extra small plates or water, the staff took care of it right away, so even during a busy time slot we had no trouble eating comfortably. Overall the food wasn't heavily seasoned, so it worked well both as drinking food and as an actual meal.

What to order at Daedongjip next time

Looking at the table next to us, orders of bossam and spicy braised chicken feet in broth were really common. In particular, the chicken feet in its spicy broth looked perfect for pairing with a shot of soju, and the potato pancake caught my eye too, coming out golden-brown on the outside. When there's a bigger group, going for a set menu to try several dishes seems like a great value option too. If you want to try a variety of Korean dishes in Guwol-dong, I'd recommend coming with a group.

Tips for visiting Daedongjip, and who it suits

In the evenings it tends to get crowded, so it's better to go a bit early or expect some waiting. If you're coming as a group, I'd recommend contacting ahead.
