Korean BBQ in Guwol-dong, Incheon: pollack roe pork belly at Midonjip
In short
Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant specialising in pollack roe pork belly, a 5-minute walk from Yesulhoegwan Station in Guwol-dong, Incheon. Two of us ordered the Don Set (₩41,900) with pollack roe pork belly and mango pork jowl, which the staff grilled for us on a cauldron-lid grill, then dipped the meat in sweet-spicy sauce and breadcrumbs and wrapped it with green onion kimchi and minari. The salty pollack roe with breadcrumbs was a combination we had never tasted before, so Midonjip is an easy recommendation for a date or a team dinner in Guwol-dong.

Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, a Guwol-dong pork belly restaurant, is located down an alley just a 5-minute walk from Yesulhoegwan Station!

Walking inside, the dark-toned interior with moon-shaped lighting was so pretty! Each table had its own grill and ventilation system that worked really well, so there was no smoke at all! The overall vibe was clean and calm, so it seems like a great date spot in Guwol-dong too!!

There's outdoor seating too, so sitting there and eating pork belly in nice weather like this must taste even better!
What's in the ₩41,900 Don Set for two

Here's the menu at Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, a Guwol-dong pork belly restaurant!

There were two of us, so we ordered the Don Set featuring the signature pollack roe pork belly and mango pork jowl!
Side dishes and the hearty doenjang-jjigae at Midonjip

The number of basic side dishes is insane!! Perilla leaves, peppers, seasoned green onion, kimchi, wild garlic leaves, bracken fern, salad, wasabi, salt, ssamjang, and mukguk (acorn jelly soup) — a lineup that's perfect for pairing with the meat!
Wow, they even serve doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), and it comes in a regular gukbap-sized earthenware bowl loaded with meat, tofu, mushrooms, zucchini, peppers and more! You could easily polish off two bowls of rice with this stew!

Tableside grilling on a cauldron-lid grill
Haha, the classic cauldron lid for pork belly, haha. Grilling on a cauldron lid drains off the fat and somehow makes it taste even better!

They first put on the pollack roe pork belly, mango pork jowl, king oyster mushrooms, bracken fern, kimchi, and salted garlic!

Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, a Guwol-dong pork belly restaurant, offers tableside grilling service! Haha, it was really nice being able to sit comfortably and eat meat grilled deliciously for us!

Haha, once the meat was fully grilled, they finished by piling on a generous amount of my favorite, minari (water dropwort)! It was grilled so nicely ✨
What does pollack roe pork belly taste like with breadcrumbs?

The pollack roe pork belly is crispy and chewy, with the saltiness of the pollack roe adding a savory, delicious flavor!

There's something special on the table — breadcrumbs and sweet-spicy sauce!

Dipping the pollack roe pork belly in the sauce and then the breadcrumbs is seriously insane!!! I'd never tried this combination before and it was so good my eyes went wide!!!! 👀

Wrapping the sauce-and-breadcrumb-coated meat with green onion kimchi and minari is seriously delicious x1000!! It's a BBQ place, but the green onion kimchi is amazing enough to stand on its own! The minari wasn't tough at all and had such a fragrant, delicious taste!

There's such a variety of side dishes to pair with the meat that you can eat it however you like! This is the first BBQ place I've been to that serves napa cabbage, haha — the owner here really knows food!!!

The mushrooms were also super juicy and delicious!

The drinks went down so smoothly! Great!!!✨
