A review of Hwang Gop Geomdan New Town Branch, located in the Ara-dong LH26 complex shopping center in Geomdan New Town, Incheon. A gopchang (beef intestine) specialist near Ara Station serving grilled gopchang, makchang, and daechang plus hot pot.
Where is Hwang Gop Geomdan New Town Branch, and what is the restaurant like?
Hwang Gop Geomdan New Town Branch is at 420 Ieum 1-ro, Sangga-dong 1st floor, Unit 9, Geomdan-gu, Incheon, in the shopping center of the Ara-dong LH26 apartment complex. The stylish brick-look storefront sign makes it easy to spot. Being inside an apartment complex shopping center makes it very accessible, and the whole place gives off a clean, trendy vibe.
What really built trust was the open kitchen setup — you can watch the whole cooking process and see the kitchen's cleanliness with your own eyes, which makes for a much more reassuring meal.

Step inside and you're greeted by a clean, tidy interior design. The place isn't huge, but the tables are spaced generously enough for a comfortable meal.

Even if you show up during peak hours, there's a separate waiting area, so you can wait comfortably no matter the weather or the crowd. That kind of thoughtful attention to guests' comfort really stood out.

Free starters at Hwang Gop: muk sabal and Korean beef tartare
Once seated, the basic side dishes come out neatly arranged, and the lineup is way more generous than expected. Cool, sweet-and-tangy mukguksu (jelly noodle soup) and fresh Korean beef tartare (yukhoe) are also served complimentary — the perfect appetite starters before the main grill arrives.

The savory yukhoe had such great umami that I ended up eating it before I even remembered to take a photo — it was genuinely that good.

Each person gets their own small plate with sauce neatly set up, so it's both hygienic and easy to enjoy.

What you can help yourself to at the self-bar
The self-bar set up on one side of the restaurant was run very hygienically and neatly.

From utensils, scissors, and tongs to small plates for sauce, chives, garlic, chili, kimchi, and other basic side dishes and sauces, you can freely help yourself to more without hesitation. The side dishes were all fresh and the area around the self-bar was kept spotless, so it was comfortable to use the whole time.

What comes on the Hwang Gop mixed platter?
The signature dish we ordered was the Hwang Gop mixed platter.

It came out from the kitchen grilled to a nice golden brown, generously loaded with gopchang, makchang, daechang, heart, and pork belly-brisket alongside a variety of vegetables. Once the food arrived, the staff kindly walked us through each cut and how to enjoy it best.

Each golden-grilled cut. You keep cooking them a little further on the table, and each piece shows off its own charm. The gopchang was crispy outside and moist inside with great savoriness, the makchang was chewy, and the daechang had a flavor that spread smoothly through the mouth — all excellent. Pairing them with vegetables and dipping them in the special sauce or chive salad kept things interesting all the way through without ever getting tiresome.

Adding the earthenware gopchang hot pot
Midway through the grilling, I started craving a warm, spicy broth, so we ordered the gopchang hot pot on top. The bubbling hot pot came packed generously with gopchang and various vegetables, and the spicy, tangy broth completely cut through the greasiness of the grilled meat. Pairing the grill with the hot pot makes for an even more perfect combination to finish the meal.
Is Hwang Gop Geomdan New Town Branch worth a visit?

From the savory grilled cuts with no unpleasant odor, to the spicy hot pot, to the generous basic side dishes, this was a highly satisfying spot overall. If you're looking for gopchang in Ara-dong or a good gopchang restaurant near Geomdan New Town, I'd recommend giving it a visit.
