Hot and cold lunch at a Songdo hagwon-area chicken restaurant: Eonyang

In short

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch is a new chicken-focused Korean restaurant in the hagwon (cram school) district of Songdo 1-gongu in Yeonsu, Incheon, serving chicken kalguksu, chicken gomtang, chogye guksu and jjimdak. On a late lunch visit, one bowl of dak gomtang (chicken soup, 11,000 won) and one seasonal chogye guksu (cold chicken noodles, 11,000 won) made a hot-and-cold pair. The nutty perilla-based gomtang broth and the icy chogye guksu balanced each other perfectly for a summer lunch.

Exterior of Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch

This place recently opened in the Songdo 1-gongu hagwon (private academy) district and has quickly become a local favorite. It's a chicken specialist serving clean-broth dak kalguksu (chicken noodle soup), dak gomtang (chicken soup), chogye guksu (cold noodles in chilled broth), and jjimdak (braised chicken). It even has chogye guksu, so it's worth checking out if you're after something cool for summer!

Location in Songdo 1-gongu and parking

📍 Location It's located in the Songdo 1-gongu hagwon area, so it's convenient for students too. It sits on a one-way street near the back gate of the Songdo food mart. Recommended if you're looking for a Songdo 1-gongu restaurant or a good place to eat solo.

🅿️ Parking Free parking is available inside the building. Roadside parking in front of the restaurant also seemed possible around lunch or dinner, and there's a public parking lot not far away, right across the street.

I visited a bit after the lunch rush, and the place was already packed with customers.

Left-side tables all reserved

All the tables on the left as you walk in were reserved seating, and fully booked.

Solo seating by the window

There are also solo seats by the window, so it's well set up for eating alone.

Self-serve bar with spicy and mild kimchi kept separate

Self-serve bar inside the restaurant

There are two self-serve bars total, so you can just use whichever is closer.

Side dish containers with spicy and mild kimchi separated

The kimchi was split into spicy kimchi and mild kimchi — first time I've seen kimchi separated like that haha. Kimchi and pickled radish were both ready to go.

Dak kalguksu is one of the best-selling items. There's also dak gomtang, jjimdak, suyuk, and mandu — a lineup of nothing but solid hits. Since it's summer, they also have the seasonal chogye guksu! We ordered one dak gomtang and one chogye guksu.

Grabbed some napa cabbage kimchi and pickled radish from the self-serve bar. Right here is one person who can't eat dak kalguksu without kimchi and radish.

Chicken gomtang, 11,000 won: nutty perilla-based broth

A bowl of dak gomtang served with rice already added

It was hot outside that day, but the air conditioning inside was freezing, so the warm broth in the dak gomtang really hit the spot. Ordering one cold dish and one hot dish gave us perfect balance. The broth is made with a perilla-seed base, so it was incredibly nutty. It was also loaded with green onion, so the onion aroma was great too. The dak gomtang comes with rice already added in, so eating the chicken and rice together made it a hearty, filling soup.

There's a whole, big chicken drumstick inside.

A drumstick that looks seriously delicious 👍👍

The chicken isn't pre-seasoned, so you need to dip it in salt and pepper as you eat.

The meat, broth, and rice went really well together. The broth is nutty enough that kids would probably enjoy it too, and in fact there were quite a few families with kids visiting.

A dak gomtang that suits every season, summer or winter 👍👍

Chogye guksu, 11,000 won: icy broth with generous toppings

Chogye guksu piled high with garnishes

Since it's summer, I also tried the chogye guksu, one of the seasonal menu items. It comes in a seriously huge basin-sized bowl. It felt a bit like milmyeon (wheat noodles), and I enjoyed it a lot, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for chogye guksu in Songdo. It came piled high with egg garnish, radish, sauce, cucumber, and chicken breast.

It arrives in a broth with floating ice shards. The broth is cold, so you need to mix the noodles in well. Just looking at the floating ice makes you feel cooler already!

Yellow chogye guksu noodles mixed into icy broth

The noodles were thicker than somyeon (thin wheat noodles) but thinner than kalguksu noodles. They're yellow, so the colorful toppings looked even more appetizing. The chicken breast, broth, and garnishes all came together harmoniously — perfect as a summer specialty.

Chogye guksu has its own charm, different from naengmyeon (cold noodles). If you like milmyeon, I think you'll enjoy this one too ‼️ If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant in Songdo 1-gongu, give Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch a try.
