Euljiro 3-ga makchang bar for after-work beer in a heatwave: Baegyeom
In short
Baegyeom Makchang Euljiro Main Branch is a Daegu-style makchang (grilled pork intestine) restaurant on the golbaengi (sea snail) alley strip in Euljiro 3-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul. On a 37°C summer weekday evening around 6:30 pm, the writer ordered two servings of Daegu makchang, Cass beer and kimchi noodle soup, and the makchang came out pre-grilled from the kitchen, so it only needed finishing at the table. Baegyeom Makchang is a great Euljiro bar for makchang and a cold beer after work.

A Daegu-style pork intestine (makchang) spot that's great for dinner get-togethers, Baegyeom Makchang in Euljiro.

These days it's scorching day and night, right?.. Just standing around and you're already sweating ˵ˊᯅˋ˵ On days like this, going straight home feels like a waste, and you just crave a cold beer! So I made a last-minute dinner plan and headed out to Euljiro!
Wandering Euljiro's alleys is always fun, and while looking around for a place to eat, I discovered Baegyeom Makchang. I love makchang so much I'd travel all the way to Daegu for it, and hearing you could properly enjoy Daegu-style makchang here, dinner was decided‼️ Let me introduce it right away!

A clean exterior on the golbaengi alley line in Euljiro

Baegyeom Makchang sits along the golbaengi (whelk) alley line in Euljiro. It has that fresh, recently-opened feel! The exterior was really clean from the outside, and the sign reading "Daegu makchang specialty restaurant" caught my radar right away 🫶
Inside the restaurant and the wait

It was dinnertime so I wondered if there'd be a wait.. but luckily! There was exactly one table left and we got seated right away. It was still 37 degrees that evening.. and people started lining up behind us.
The inside seats about 10 to 12 tables and was spotless overall! It felt bustling and like a good size for an Euljiro work dinner or group gathering.
The bathroom is near the register, unisex but lockable, so it was comfortable to use. There's a separate sink too, good for a quick hand wash.
The Baegyeom Makchang menu lineup

The main menu consisted of Daegu makchang, seasoned makchang, sundae (Korean blood sausage), pork neck, and hot pot, with sides including doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), salted fish fried rice, kimchi noodle soup, and tomato basil ramen. The tomato basil ramen especially felt really fresh‼️
On the wall there was also a guide to the tastiest way to grill it. It said: sear the pre-grilled intestines over high heat until golden, cut into bite-sized pieces, then once they turn brown, lower the heat and slowly flip for the best flavor👍

We ordered via QR code, and since the menu wasn't huge, it actually felt more like a proper specialty restaurant. It felt like a place focused entirely on makchang, which was exciting. And a funny little point — the new soju was listed sideways and upside down on the screen, and the two of us cracked up over it for a while (lol) These little details are so fun~~
Order: two servings of Daegu makchang, Cass, kimchi noodle soup
- ✅ Daegu makchang, 2 servings
- ✅ Cass
- ✅ Kimchi noodle soup

Every table around us had drinks going, and the vibe was great for a casual drink, so if you're looking for an Euljiro restaurant/bar, I think you'd be satisfied.

True to a specialty restaurant, the makjang (seasoned soybean dipping sauce) came generously, loaded with chopped green onion and sliced chili — that Daegu-style combo was such a welcome sight! I'm a light-dip person while my partner goes all in — do you see the difference in our styles? 🤣🤣
Even the paper cups had the restaurant's name printed on them, which made it easy to remember later.
Pre-grilled Daegu makchang — how do you cook it

Here comes the two servings of Daegu makchang :) It arrives pre-grilled once in the kitchen, so on the table you just need to finish it off nicely. Not having to grill it for ages in hot weather was a total win!
We waited for the grill pan to heat up, then laid the pieces on one by one — sizzle~sizzle~~ the sound of it cooking alone was seriously appetite-triggering. Mouth-watering‼️ Enoki mushrooms and long green onion came along too and got grilled.

We grilled it on high heat, then lowered to low heat to cook slowly — be careful, since grilling too long can make it chewy. We like our makchang crispy outside and tender inside, so we grilled it a bit more golden! You can see it slicing smoothly with the scissors, right? Totally tender ( ᵔ ᗢ ᵔ )

Before digging in properly, a refreshing palate cleanser~
First bite in salt, the next dipped lightly in makjang, yum yum~ The combo of green onion kimchi with grilled long green onion was seriously amazing..

Kimchi noodle soup ordered to finish
After eating a good amount of makchang, we craved something cool and refreshing, so we added an order of kimchi noodle soup. Wow.. this thing was incredible? Textbook sweet-and-tangy. It cleared the palate completely and was the perfect finish. A familiar K-food flavor anyone can enjoy!

At the entrance there was also fabric deodorizer, so we could freshen up any smell stuck to our clothes before leaving, which was great! And above all, the staff were so friendly and kind, we had a great time the whole meal.

Thanks to the pleasant service and delicious Daegu makchang, it was a satisfying dinner. If I ever crave makchang again, this is a place I'd want to revisit :)
Q&A
Is there a wait?
I visited around 6:30 pm on a weekday, and there was exactly one table left. It fills up fast in the evening, so I'd recommend arriving a bit early.
Do you have to grill it from scratch?
Nope! It comes pre-grilled from the kitchen, so on the table you just need to finish it off nicely — you can enjoy it without much fuss.
Any side dish recommendations?
We ordered the kimchi noodle soup alongside, and its tangy, cool broth paired really well with the makchang. It cuts through the richness cleanly, so I'd definitely recommend having it together.
Is it good for work dinners or dates?
Yes! The place is clean and the atmosphere is comfortable, so it works well for an Euljiro date course as well as work dinners and group gatherings.
