Taegine Jogae Jeongol (택이네조개전골) Gimpo Sau branch is a clam hot pot restaurant on the Sau-dong food street in Gimpo, Gyeonggi. On a chilly day, the family ordered the tang bossam set (clam soup, bossam boiled pork and kalguksu noodles) and a pork cutlet, then enjoyed unlimited barley rice and soft serve ice cream. With high chairs, roomy seating and kid-friendly service, Taegine Jogae Jeongol was a satisfying choice for a family meal with children.

Yeongjong steam pot buffet, veggie refill tip: Pyeonpyeonjip

Pyeonpyeonjip Yeongjong Sky City branch (편편집 영종하늘도시점) is an all-you-can-eat cypress steam pot, shabu-shabu and rice paper roll restaurant in Yeongjong Sky City, Incheon. After watching the sea and seagulls at Guyeupbaetteo with the kids, the writer refilled the steam pot once (tip: add vegetables when the refill comes), had shabu-shabu in seafood and spicy seafood broths, and finished with kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and porridge, while the kids loved making toast at the self-bar. With a large free underground car park and a kids' zone for children under 120 cm, Pyeonpyeonjip was a satisfying spot for a family meal with children.

Whole duck BBQ lunch with mom near Bakchon Station: Ganaandeok

Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch (가나안덕 계양점) is a charcoal-grilled duck restaurant near Bakchon Station in Gyeyang, Incheon. A regular had lunch there with her mom: one whole raw charcoal-grilled duck and duck soup in an earthenware pot, then ordered only 2 servings of the free mung bean porridge because they were full, and regretted it as soon as she tasted how good it was. With a large parking lot, room-style group seating and a vent at every table, Ganaandeok Gyeyang Branch is an easy duck restaurant to take your parents to.

Magok Korean restaurant for autumn oyster gukbap: O Jangin Sonmat

O Jangin Sonmat is a Korean restaurant near Exit 7 of Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul, said to be run by a chef with 40 years of experience. On an autumn family outing, the writer ordered a large flounder mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) with somyeon noodles, abalone seaweed soup for the kids and oyster gukbap (rice soup) for her husband, and the side dishes were neat and the portions generous. O Jangin Sonmat is a solid pick for a Magok family meal that pleases both children and adults.

Gimpo Korean set meal after too much delivery food: Bomseol Gimpo

Bomseol Gimpo (봄설 김포점) is a premium Korean set-meal (hansik) restaurant on Geomdan-ro in Gamjeong-dong, Gimpo, run by a Korean cuisine master. Worn out by delivery and instant food, the writer and her husband ordered the Bomseol Healthy Table for 2: a full spread of sotbap (stone-pot rice), braised kodari (half-dried pollack), jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), a self-serve barley bibimbap corner and dongchimi (radish water kimchi). Bomseol Gimpo is a good fit when you want a clean, gentle Korean meal that sits easy on the stomach.

Pizza dakgalbi family lunch with kids in Geomdan: Cheolpanjeong

With roomy seating and kids' dishes, Cheolpanjeong is a good pick for a family dakgalbi meal in Geomdan.

Front-row kids' magic show with stage time in Incheon: Back to Joseon

JT's Back to Joseon (마술사 제이티의 백투더조선) is a Joseon-era, audience-participation kids' magic show in the 1st-floor theater of Incheon Children's Science Museum in Gyeyang, Incheon. The writer watched the Sunday show from the first row with two magic-loving kids, and one was picked as the very first child volunteer to go on stage for a beona (traditional plate-spinning) trick. Back to Joseon is 60 minutes of laughing and joining in for kids and parents alike, and it is worth recommending for a weekend family show in Incheon.

Geomdan tonkatsu family lunch: jumbo Hogyu Katsu, cold soba, HOKATSU

HOKATSU is a handmade tonkatsu restaurant in Geomdan New Town, Seo-gu, Incheon, open for over 10 years and known for aging its pork in homemade yogurt. A regular family came for a weekend lunch and finally ordered the jumbo brazier-grilled Hogyu Katsu (beef cutlet) they had spotted at the next table on an earlier visit, along with the Favorite Katsu set and cold tatari soba; the butter-grilled Hogyu Katsu was so popular that the kids raced each other for it. HOKATSU is a Geomdan family spot where kids and adults alike leave happy.

Gangnam Station burger shop: Greed Burger solo lunch at Bass Burger

Bass Burger Gangnam Samsung Town is a handmade burger restaurant behind Exit 5 of Gangnam Station in Seocho, Seoul, with kiosk ordering and Jamesgam (제임스감), a free unlimited-refill potato chip self-bar. For a solo lunch, the writer ordered the Greed Burger (탐욕버거), the new Chili Mozzarella Cheese Bar and a 4.7% Bass Lager craft beer, and found the burger generous, the cheese side not spicy and the lager refreshing. Gyodae gimbap shop diet lunch: cabbage protein tteokbokki, Halls

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a gimbap and Korean snack shop about a 4-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul, run by the same owner and staff with the same seasoning and cooking methods as the former Auto Gimbap (0토김밥) Seocho. For a solo lunch the writer ordered cabbage protein tteokbokki that tasted like dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) and a double cheese egg gimbap packed with filling, and was happy with both, though the dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) was sold out that day. Verdict: Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a good Gyodae Station spot for a filling yet light solo lunch.

Pasta place near Wanjeong Station: whole crab pasta, Italian Madam

Italian Madam Main Branch is a Western restaurant serving pasta, pizza, pilaf and steak near Exit 1 of Wanjeong Station in Geomdan, Incheon. After a good earlier visit with her kids, the writer returned with her husband for a late lunch of red cream crab pasta topped with a whole crab (17,900 won), pork neck pilaf (12,500 won) and a green grape ade, and found the self-serve kimchi and table kiosks especially convenient. For a Wanjeong Station lunch or a Geomdan family meal with crab pasta, Italian Madam Main Branch is a satisfying choice.
