Hwamyeong-dong Korean BBQ, Busan: round scallion salad, Go Ok-hui
In short
Go Ok-hui Hwamyeong Main Branch (고옥희 화명본점) is a seasoned pork belly restaurant in Hwamyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, where the staff grill the meat over charcoal before serving it and the tables use induction burners. After work on a weekday, the writer ordered the small set platter (500g, ₩35,500) and shiitake rice, and especially loved the round-cut chojang scallion salad and the honeycomb pork skin, which won over even a self-confessed pork skin hater. What does the name Go Ok-hui mean?
Go Ok-hui (고옥희) is a BBQ restaurant in Hwamyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, and the name carries a meaning: 'Go' for high-level flavor, 'Ok' for pure-as-white-jade tidiness, and 'Hui' for a table filled with warmth. After work on a weekday I suddenly wanted samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) for the first time in a while, so off to Hwamyeong-dong I went☆ミ I visited this Buk-gu BBQ spot, Go Ok-hui!
At first, seeing the name "Go Ok-hui," I wondered: is it because saying it fast sounds like "gogi" (meat)? Maybe the owner's name is Go Ok-hui? I came up with all sorts of guesses and every one was wrong, haha;;; It's the meaning above-- ⌯˃͈꒵˂͈⌯ಣ

Exterior and the free sikhye while you wait

The exterior of Go Ok-hui Hwamyeong Main Branch gives off a classy feel starting with the sign¿¡ I only photographed the outside after finishing my meal, and it advertises ✔️powerful air conditioning ✔️seasoned pork belly specialist. It was all true, so it passes (even the entrance is barrier-free🦽).
There were waiting chairs too, and I noticed an ice box behind them, so I took a look👇

The best(´_ゝ`).. I've honestly never seen a restaurant like this.. Thinking of customers waiting in this hot weather, they keep cool sikhye (sweet rice punch) in the ice box. Such a touching moment.

What are the seating and atmosphere like inside?
The inside of Go Ok-hui Hwamyeong Main Branch is clean and comfortable in black and wood tones. There are 4-person and 6-person tables, so it's great for family, couples, group gatherings and company dinners! With only about 6-7 tables it isn't huge, but that means it's not noisy and you can eat feeling well looked after, so I think parents would like it too.

Side dishes and the round-cut chojang scallion salad
The basic side dishes are ssamjang (dipping paste), white kimchi, shiitake wasabi, spicy green chili, garlic, wasabi, myeongi namul (pickled wild greens), ssammu (pickled radish wraps), and a big bowl of chojang pajeori (scallion salad in sweet-spicy chili vinegar sauce) in the middle. 'Ok' in Go Ok-hui means pure-as-white-jade tidiness, and the sides live up to it, very neat from the start.
The chojang scallion salad wasn't the shape I'm used to, so at first I wondered what it was¿¡ But the moment I ate it: eu-re-ka. It's not long shredded scallion but scallions cut into little rounds, so when you make a wrap it's neat and easy to eat in one bite. I was impressed by the owner's thoughtfulness...
For dipping the pork belly and pork skin, you get curry powder, pink salt, soybean powder and mayonnaise.

Set menu small platter: pork belly that arrives charcoal-grilled
Mukbang time, go! At Go Ok-hui I ordered the "set menu, small platter"! Once the order goes in, the side items start cooking. Scallions, tteokguk rice cake slices, mushrooms, sliced potato and gosari (bracken fern) come out.

What I like about Go Ok-hui, this Buk-gu BBQ spot! ✔️The meat is charcoal-grilled before it reaches you ✔️Induction is used instead of hot, dangerous fire

Take a look at how to eat the meat deliciously before it arrives (o^・^o)

Ta-da, today's menu finally appears: honeycomb pork skin, galbi-seasoned pork and plain pork belly

Plain pork belly with pink salt and shiitake wasabi
The plain pork belly goes with pink salt and shiitake wasabi☆ミ Charcoal aroma plus savory juices, so yummy

Galbi-seasoned pork belly with myeongi namul and potato wraps
I ate the galbi-seasoned pork belly with myeongi namul, potato wraps, white kimchi and more. It's a flavor kids would like as well as adults! And it isn't too sweet, so I enjoyed it. There were so many sides and I didn't want to miss a single one, so I kept putting this in and that in my wraps, on repeat ゚+.゚(*´∀`)b゚+.゚

Honeycomb pork skin that won over a pork skin hater
The honeycomb pork skin went with curry powder, soybean powder and mayonnaise☆ミ I'm normally someone who hates pork skin!!!!!! But this was seriously amazing. In the end my boyfriend got full and put down his chopsticks, so the leftover skin went into my belly (>.<)y-~

Go Ok-hui shiitake rice with gopchang gim
Actually, we ordered the shiitake jangbap (shiitake rice) too. It arrived packed with shiitake mushrooms, looking delicious

A Buk-gu BBQ place that even serves it with gopchang gim (thick, crinkly seaweed), Go Ok-hui is the best

The gopchang gim is so thick!!! Shiitake rice with all the gopchang gim
