Haejangguk restaurant in Buk-gu, Ulsan, open lunch-only: Boksan
In short
Boksan Haejang is a haejangguk (hangover soup) and gukbap restaurant in the Songjeong district new town of Buk-gu, Ulsan. Visiting on a weekday at noon, the writer tried Boksan Haejangguk (₩11,000), Haejang Kalguksu (₩13,000) and somyeon noodle add-on (₩1,000), finding a deep broth simmered from pork bone, seafood and vegetables with generous meat. The restaurant only opens 11:00–14:30, so it's worth rushing there before the lunch peak.

Today's post is a review of Boksan Haejang (복산해장), a gukbap (rice and soup) and haejangguk (hangover soup) specialist that's become word-of-mouth famous for its deep broth in the Songjeong district new town of Buk-gu, Ulsan. I tried everything from the haejangguk to the haejang kalguksu (hangover noodle soup), so let's get into it.

Location and hours of Boksan Haejang
- Address: 8 Songjeong29-gil, 1st floor, Buk-gu, Ulsan, South Korea (Songjeong-dong 1185-1, near Goheon Middle School)
- Hours: 11:00–14:30 (last order 14:00) / closed every Monday
- A Songjeong-dong, Ulsan lunch hotspot that runs for just three and a half hours, centered on the lunch rush
- Amenities and services: Wi-Fi, takeout, reservations, group bookings, high chairs available

A sleek exterior and window-view interior
Located in the commercial strip of the Songjeong district new town, Boksan Haejang makes a stylish first impression with its clean black-and-white exterior.
♧ Wood tones and an emotional window view: the interior is built around warm wood furnishings that feel cozy, and through the large windows you get a full view of the green scenery outside — a comfortable, pleasant place to eat.

A wait even at noon on a weekday
♧ A restaurant busy enough for a wait: we visited at noon on a weekday and the place was already packed with diners. By the time we finished eating, a waiting line had formed — proof of just how popular this Korean restaurant is as a go-to spot in Buk-gu, Ulsan.

♧ A trustworthy direct-sourcing meat system: Boksan Haejang sources its meat directly through its own affiliated businesses, Boksan Meat, Boksan Yukgwan, and Boksan Donkkaseu, which lets them serve generous portions of good-quality meat at reasonable prices.

What we ordered — an honest taste review

The basic side dishes — three of them — are neatly laid out: kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), pickled onion, and pickled radish salad, all of which pair perfectly with gukbap.

Boksan Haejangguk (₩11,000)
The signature dish, served piping hot in a stone pot with real care.

Thanks to a broth base harmoniously simmered from pork bone, seafood, and various vegetables, the soup is deep and clean yet has a distinct savory richness that's excellent.
Maybe because of that direct-sourcing system, the stone pot is loaded with a generous, satisfying amount of meat, and the broth is genuinely the real deal — the kind that will make anyone hunting for a haejangguk restaurant in Buk-gu, Ulsan let out an involuntary sigh of satisfaction!

Somyeon noodle add-on (₩1,000)
Add the noodle sarikeo (extra noodle serving) and they generously fill an entire bowl with somyeon (thin wheat noodles).

Thanks to their generosity, we split the noodles between us and left feeling well and truly full.
Haejang Kalguksu (₩13,000)
A specialty dish that adds chewy kalguksu (hand-cut knife noodles) to Boksan Haejang's own deep, rich broth.

The noodles soak up the rich broth's seasoning perfectly, giving a great slurping texture, and it offers a totally different, equally appealing charm compared to the gukbap.
Local foodie's tips
- Check the lunch-only hours: because the restaurant only runs from 11:00 to 14:30 (last order 14:00), I'd recommend visiting before the noon peak or getting there early.
- Free corkage perk: corkage is free with no limit on the number of bottles, so if you enjoy a drink with your meal, feel free to bring along whatever alcohol you like without worrying about the cost.
- Great for families: the clean interior plus high chairs make it a solid choice for a family meal out with kids.
