Sindang market bar, alcohol-free: cheese potato pancake at Jjeojeoseu
In short
Jjeojeoseu Sindang Jungang Market Main Branch (지져스 신당중앙시장본점) is a bar inside Sindang Jungang Market in Jung-gu, Seoul, serving Mexican and Korean iron-griddle fusion dishes. With plans later that evening, the writer skipped alcohol and ordered a yuzu lemon ade and a Shirley Temple ade with the rolled cheese potato pancake and bulgogi Doritos, and still couldn't stop eating. Thanks to its open kitchen and lighting, Jjeojeoseu is a Sindang date spot you can fully enjoy without drinking.

Menu lineup

You can enjoy a taste of Mexico right inside Sindang Jungang Market, with Jjeojeoseu's signature and special menu items. It would probably taste even better with something sweet and alcoholic, or a draft beer alongside..! Unfortunately I had plans after this so I couldn't drink.. that's a bit of a shame..! (Guess I'll just have to come back~?)
Interior and seating

Inside Jjeojeoseu there are 4 tables, and outside there are 2 more.

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the owner cook and see the smoky char get seared into the food on the hot plate — waiting for the food was honestly never boring.

Once you're seated and order, they bring you a small plate and cool water! Since it's a bar, each table also gets a cute little lamp. I visited at 5pm when it was still bright outside, but the owner adjusted the indoor lighting for me, so I ended up taking a ton of photos in that flattering light haha.
Rolled cheese potato pancake ₩10,000

The rolled cheese potato pancake, ₩10,000, is Jjeojeoseu's BEST menu item. Very thinly shredded potato and cheese are grilled together right on the hot plate. It's a Mexican-Korean fusion dish, and crispy shredded potato pancake plus cheese is a combo that can't go wrong.
Tip! Try adding a little of the onion and wasabi mixed into the sauce underneath for extra flavor.
I wasn't expecting much from the rolled cheese potato pancake, but I get why it's the BEST menu item.. it's not a super unique flavor, but it's the perfect snack for a 🍺 draft beer.
Bulgogi Doritos ₩13,000

Bulgogi Doritos, ₩13,000, is Jjeojeoseu's most popular item — bulgogi and assorted toppings piled onto nachos. Maybe because they're operating right inside the market, the onion, tomato, and other toppings were fresh and good. (Personally, the spicy jalapeño was the kicker for me.)
Tip! Crush the nachos with a spoon, pile on more nacho chips, then top with tomato, onion, and jalapeño, and pop it all in your mouth at once.
This is clearly a drinking snack.. but my spoon didn't stop even without alcohol..

I scraped up every last bit of what was left~ (happy ending)
Ade instead of alcohol: yuzu lemon and Shirley Temple

Since I had plans afterward.. unfortunately I went with ade instead of alcohol.. The owner told me the recommendation would be Jjeojeoseu's signature 1L cocktail, the 'Jjeojeoseu Tea' -> It's Jjeojeoseu's own signature cocktail blending three kinds of alcohol with the freshness of mixed berries and lime. (If anyone's had it, please leave a review..!)
I ordered the yuzu lemon ade and the Shirley Temple ade, and once they arrive, make sure to stir them well like in the video above — it tastes so much better 🌟
- If you're after something sweet: Shirley Temple ade
- If you're after something sweet-and-tangy: yuzu lemon ade

Yuzu lemon ade, ₩5,000. A tangy-sweet yuzu lemon ade. Even for someone like me who isn't really into yuzu, the yuzu flavor wasn't too strong, and I could enjoy the refreshing sweet-tart taste of yuzu and lemon.

Shirley Temple ade, ₩5,000. Unlike the yuzu lemon ade, this one was on the sweeter side. It reminded me of a cherry ade — and after biting into the spicy jalapeño on the bulgogi Doritos and going 'ah, that's spicy,' the Shirley Temple ade was great for cooling things down.

All the beers I couldn't drink because of my schedule, and the little store decor that reflects the owner's personal taste.
Restroom: the market's open restroom

For the restroom, you can use the open restroom inside the market! There's even a mist spraying out somewhere in the market to cool you down — for a moment it felt like escaping a walking sauna, and that made me weirdly happy haha.
Tiny proof shots

A tiny proof shot. The moment the food arrived I was pulled in by the delicious smell, so please ignore the bit I'd already eaten on the left haha. Thanks to the owner~~ I ate so well!

In the end I scraped the bowl completely clean haha. Looking forward to the day I get to come back and drink Jjeojeoseu's signature 'Jjeojeoseu Tea' cocktail along with the food.
