Jamsil sandwich shop weekend lunch rush: 20-minute wait, Town Sandwich

I had plans out from the morning on a weekend, so I skipped breakfast, but with another appointment coming up after, I needed something quick to eat in between. I decided on a sandwich. Here's my visit to Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch, where the crispy baguette left the biggest impression.

Where Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch is, and what the shop feels like

Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch is across from Jangmi Apartment, on the first floor of the Sharp Star Park commercial building. It's within walking distance of Jamsil Station, making it convenient to stop by when you have other errands nearby.

Walking inside, the space had a clean, fresh feel.

There were tables suited for eating alone as well as four two-person tables inside. Two more tables sat outside the shop. In weather this cool and pleasant, eating at an outdoor table seemed like a nice option too.

When I visited there were plenty of open seats, so I could pick wherever I wanted comfortably.

How long is the wait at noon on a weekend?

I visited Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch around noon on a weekend. There were open tables in the dining room, but delivery orders kept coming in, so the kitchen looked quite busy.

Our food took about 20 minutes to come out. Since I'd come by hoping for something quick and simple, the wait felt a little long. Turns out having empty seats didn't mean the food came out right away...

If you're looking for a Jamsil sandwich for lunch, keep in mind that depending on delivery order volume, there may be some wait time.

While waiting, delivery riders kept coming and going, and among the customers were elderly guests as well as families with young children (there were no high chairs available). It was striking to see such a wide range of ages coming to a sandwich shop.

Ordering the Town Sandwich and the basil jambon-beurre

When I visit somewhere for the first time, I like to order the signature or most popular menu item. So this time I ordered the shop's namesake Town Sandwich, the popular basil jambon-beurre, and a hot americano.

Town Sandwich: the flavor I expected, on a crisp baguette

The shop's namesake signature, the Town Sandwich, was filled with ham, cheese, and lettuce. It tasted exactly like the sandwich I expected it to be. The familiar ingredients worked well together, making it easy and comfortable to eat.

What stood out was the texture of the baguette.

The outside was really crispy and the bread inside was soft. The fillings were ordinary, but the bread had real character, making it a distinctive sandwich.

Basil jambon-beurre: basil pesto meets ham and butter

This is a sandwich with bread spread with basil pesto, filled with jambon-beurre (ham and butter) and vegetables. With the basil pesto and jambon-beurre combination, it was different in composition from the basic ham-and-cheese Town Sandwich.

Comparing the two, personally the Town Sandwich suited my taste better. It felt a bit moister to eat than the basil jambon-beurre.

The hot americano at Town Sandwich

There was a sign at the entrance saying they're known for their coffee, so I ordered a hot americano. It wasn't too bitter, which made it a good match for the sandwiches. Paired with the sandwich, I noticed a slight acidity that gave it a distinctive flavor — though I'm not much of a coffee expert, so I'm not sure how to describe it better...;;

A picnic at Jamsil Hangang Park comes to mind

While eating and glancing out the window, a few runners passed by and it made me think of Hangang Park. If you cross the street and go through the underpass near Jangmi Apartment, you can get to the Han River quickly.

In this kind of outing-friendly season, it seemed like it would be great to take sandwiches to go and bring them to the Han River. Sitting at Hangang Park eating a sandwich would feel like a picnic without having to travel far. This time I ate in the shop, but next time I'd like to take it to go for a Han River picnic.

Is Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch worth the wait?

What stuck with me most from the Jamsil sandwiches I tried this time was, once again, the baguette — crispy outside, soft inside. Keep in mind that even when the shop isn't crowded, heavy delivery orders can mean some wait for your food, so plan ahead if your lunch break is tight.

This is a place worth remembering for a relaxed weekend lunch or when you want to grab sandwiches to go before a Han River outing. Next time, I want to try sitting at the outdoor tables!
